Paul Leroy Robeson
Paul Leroy Robeson was an American bass singer, athlete, lawyer, linguist, and actor who was heavily involved with the Civil Rights Movement in the 1900s. He became politically involved in response to, social injustices, and fascism. As a powerful actor and singer Paul efficiently spread the message of Americas inhumane actions internationally. This was to help gain awareness on these occurring issues. Although he protested against several American policies such anti-imperialism, criticism of the United States Government, and was in affiliation with communism which lead to him being blacklisted and having his passport taken away, he was a figure that many African Americans followed. Without Robeson’s attribution to fighting for civil rights, America wouldn’t have advanced to where it is today. He stated that, “As an artist I come to sing, but as a citizen, I will always speak for peace, and no one can silence me in this.”

Paul Robeson was born into the harsh life of constant racism in Princeton, New Jersey, on April 9, 1898. His parents were Anna Louisa and William Drew
