The EnvironmentThe EnvironmentThroughout my life I have always tried to use logic and reasoning to understand and explain the world around me. This made my education a rather easy experience for me, but hindered my social life somewhat. I have never an emotional person, and have always tried to approach a situation from a logical standpoint first. But along the way, over the years of my life, I have found that certain aspects of our nature and life cannot be solved by logical means, at least not to my knowledge. The first aspect I noticed was the human need and love for music. I noticed that every single person I encountered or read about had some sort of music in their life. I felt it too. I loved music but I could not figure out why. Other aspects included laughter and the need to have a life partner. These things seemed so odd to me and I could not grasp any logical reason as to why we have them. But one of the most peculiar illogical human traits I have noticed is now being jeopardized, that is our awe in nature and the environment. We find such beauty in the simple night sky, I cannot understand why, but I feel it too. But with technology and oil being huge factors of our lives today, they are slowly destroying our environment and we have to ask ourselves what is more important.
I do not believe that any person can honestly say that no aspect of the Earth is beautiful to them. From mountains to oceans to fields, even deserts have their majestic touch. There should be no argument that these features of Earth please us. Our changing lifestyle, however, is also changing the Earth. Our carbon emissions are destroying the ozone layer and may very well destroy the Earth after long enough. Global warming, as controversial as it is, should never be ignored, for it could quickly change the climate of every place on Earth. It took a remarkable and unprovable series of discoveries for the earth to start warming faster than at any time since the 19th century. The reason for this, however, seems quite simple: the sun was already producing much higher CO2 emissions this century compared to 2000 years ago, so it doesn’t have to do with the increased global warming. However, it is more simple than that: the climate of the present day (from climate models) is changing dramatically with the increase in the sun’s mass and with the increase in the CO2 levels and the level of clouds and the ocean. In fact, this change is just beginning. The amount of clouds and the temperature of the atmosphere have increased (from around 2 degrees Celsius in 2006 to over 20 degrees in 2017), and are now expanding. This is all the more reason for the increasing CO2 levels—that is, the atmosphere is slowly burning, which means the temperature of the atmosphere is warmer than the temperature of the planet. This increase is primarily due to a combination of an increasing amount of solar activity, and that is mostly happening under a global cloud cover of aerosol, and more moisture vapor entering the atmosphere than has been created from the sun’s activity over the entire Earth’s history. According to NASA, this increase has been even larger since the middle of the century in order to produce a warmer environment. According to the NASA data, there isn’t much that can be done about this change even compared to the changes predicted as early as the 1940s. According to an article in the August 3, 2013 issue of Science, the increase in CO2 levels has been caused by changes in surface air temperature, which are warming the planet in a much faster fashion. This is also why the ice cores that had to be used to calibrate CO2 measurements are more difficult to read with the modern lenses, making them more difficult to read over much less time. Furthermore, since CO2 is very large—it’s possible that it could be much larger than the observed increase from the past century—it’s important that more people know the true effect of atmospheric CO2 on weather.
The last piece of evidence that points toward a link between global cooling and global warming is the fact that in 1990 the United States became the single largest greenhouse gas importer in the world. Of course, the US still ranks ahead of every developed nation. However, the UN IPCC said that for every year since 1990, global CO2 levels have fallen by more than 10%.
