Stress is something that every human in this world has to deal with eventually. Some people handle stress better than others and some do not even realize they are stressed. I never really thought of myself as a stressed out person but after completing the online self stress test I have noticed a few new signs of stress that I was previously unaware of. I scored a 25 on the assessment and my results indicate that I am in the danger zone, I have a vulnerability to stress, I may be experiencing stress related symptoms, and may live an extremely stressful life. These were all things that were surprising to me.
Stress can impact the human body in both a negative way and what most people do not realize a positive way. as with most thing is life stress is good for the body with in moderation. The right amount of stress in one’s life can lead to an improved immune system, which can aid the healing process. If you have to much stress in your life or prolonged stress it can effect you in many negative ways. These negative effects are usually the signs of stress in your life. Headaches, stomach pain, high blood pressure, insomnia, and mind freeze are just a few of the negatives you have to look out for when acknowledging you are stress (Kotz, 2008).
I know that when I am stressed in a situation I will most of the time go into the fight or flight mentality (Eller, 2010). You can react to stress with the fight mentality as it use it for motivation and crush the task or goal at hand, or you can just give up and not put any effort because the stress has gotten the best of you and got you into the flight mentality meaning you have mentally given up on yourself. I do not have a different perspective on stress and motivation in my life. I feed of the stress to get things done or plan ahead so that the stress is not a factor. Sometimes after a long stressful day at work I do not feel like doing anything when I get home and this can have a negative emotional feeling on my family and me. I try to reverse this stress and use it as motivation to go to the gym. According to experts exercise and physical activity is one the best things you can do in life to counteract stress (Kotz, 2008) Usually after the gym my whole demeanor has changed so that by the time I get home I can give my family a hundred percent of me.
There are many ways that I can manage the stress symptoms in my life. I personally like to start my day off with a cup of coffee. I did not know that stimulants were a major player when it can to causes of stress. I can definitely stop taking stimulants. It is not something I necessarily need in fact I thought a cup of coffee in the morning was suppose to be relaxing. Another combatant of stress was the
