“ask not what you can do for your country, but what your country can do for yo.” This quote made by john f. keenedy is one that is known by many. To some it hold one meaning, but to others a different. When I read this quote, the thought that comes to my mind is ask not what can be done for you by others, but what you can do for them. The people of todays
society worry only about themselves. They worry about how they will benefit from something, not how it can benefit someone elses life.
For example, I work in a health care facility. In this career field, one will encounter certain medical professsionals who are only in it for the money. They are not there to help the patient.
When people are like this, the concentrate on doing only what they have to do to get by when instead they should be worried about giviving the best care possible to the ones they work with.
In my opinion, a medical professional should be the one who truly cares about the well being of his or her patients and does this type of work because they love to help people, not just because it pays well.
Though much of our society shows how we should not be, there are still those few that shows how we should be. During therescue and cleanup efforts after the terriost attacks on Sept. 11 and Hurrican Katrina, so many people volunteered their time and effort, and money to those in need.
So many people lost loved ones, homes, jobs, and their lives. The helping hand of someone else gave them security. Many men and women signed up in national forces to serve our country. What they got in return would change them forever.
These people are a prime example of the way we should be. They were willing to help, knowing that most likely all they would get in return is the blessing of being able to help someone in need.
As can be seen from what I have shared with you today, I believe what this quote says. A person should not ask what can be done for them, but what they can do for someone else.
