Obama Speech
On September 8, 2009 President Barack Obama wrote a speech about the importance of education to children from kindergarten to 12th grade. In this speech Obama speaks to the children about how important education is to everyone in the country. He gave a great example to everyone when he talked about how his childhood went. His family did not have the money to send him to the American schools, so his mother taught him extra lessons every weekday at 4:30 a.m, and even though he complained and didn’t like it, he still got it done. He relates this speech into people’s everyday lives by saying he knows students do not want to put in all the work for our education but it is our responsibility to work for our education and succeed with it. Even if we are miserable in the situation, we must work hard and get it done.
Obama reaches out to the students about what it takes to reach their success. Whatever it is we want to do in life Obama states that we will need an education for it. He wants to push us to strive and push ourselves to get the job done and never quit. He states, “if you quit on school – you’re not just quitting on yourself, you’re quitting on your country.” This is an effective statement because it challenges Americans in school to fulfill their civil duties of getting their education. No matter what is going on in their lives they are still expected to keep going and get the education they need to succeed.
Obama then gives examples of how hard some people have it in life but despite all the negativity in their lives they never gave up on their education. He talked about a girl,
