Discussion on Facebook “dislike”
IntroductionHi everyone, in this week’s video discussion, I wanna talk about one of the most anticipated social media feature in recent times. That is the facebook “dislike”As you all know, facebook currently only has the “like” button- which help users “praise” facebook posts that interest them. The “like” button itself is an extremely useful valuable function for any online marketers. The reason is by “liking” something, users will send a message that they are interested in that particular post or fb status. With enough “likes” recorded, marketers can discover people’s preferences, interests and hobbies, so they can create appropriate FB marketing campaign that are relevant to their target demographics. Better yet, the “likes” button serve a measure of successes for any FB marketing campaign. The more likes your social campaign gets, the more visible it will be. More people will see and know about your posts by looking at their friends’ fb actitivities.
Useful as it is, FB “like” button still its drawbacks. It is a limited tool in terms of expressing your emotions, in particular “negative” or “disapproval” feeling, toward certain FB posts. You have no other way to show your disinterest on FB except for actually commenting on the posts. Furthermore, some circumstances might make “liking” something turn out to be an impolite gesture at best or rude, insensitive and inappropriate gesture at worst, such as “liking” posts about someone who just passed away or tragic FB statuses posted or uploaded by your friends. In these cases, people would be less comfortable to click the “like” button due to the fear of their actions being perceived as rude instead of thoughtful. That would also mean people would feel hesitant to “like” your FB marketing posts if its contents deal with sensitive mattersThat’s why there has been a vocal group on FB asking more feature to be added, particularly a “dislike’ button , or any similar in function feature. People want a way to not just simply downvote or dislike someone’s posts, but they want to be able to express empathy. And that is the reason why FaceBook is developing and testing a new “dislike” button. According to its founder, Mark Zuckerberg, the new feature is not exactly a simple “dislike” button. Facebook does not want to become the place where people are voting up or down on people’s posts. It wants this new feature to help people express their empathy towards tragic news posts. Ultimately, the new “dislike” button give companies new data source to determine users’ attitude towards their digital marketing campaign. The button will help companies understand their customers better so they can create better, more relatable marketing campaigns.
