Introduction
Mrs. Indra Krishnamurthy Nooyi, originally from India, joined PepsiCo, Inc. in 1994. Between 1996 and 1999 Nooyi was Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy Development and in 2001 rose to the post of CFO. In October 2006 she was named President and PepsiCos fifth CEO, furthermore, in May 2, 2007 assumed the role of Chairman. The PepsiCo Family consists four major divisions: PepsiCo America Beverages (PAB), PepsiCo Americas Food, PepsiCo Europe, and PepsiCo Middle East & Africa.
PepsiCo, headquarters located in Purchase, NY, is a global food and beverage company that has 22 brands, such as, Lays and Tropicana, in 200 countries, employees over 285,000. According to PepsiCo, Inc. 2011 Annual Report, its global annual net revenue consists of Global Snacks $32 billion, Global Beverages $34 billion and Global Nutrition $13 billion with plans to grow in to $30 billion by 2020. As CEO Nooyis notable accomplishment earlier and thus far are: (1) the divesture and spin-out of its restaurant into successful Yum! Brands Inc. which operates or licenses Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut, the acquisition of Tropicana, (2) the merger with Quaker Oats, adding with it Gatorade, Chewy Granola Bars, and Aunt Jemima, among others, (3) the merger with PepsiCos anchor bottles and (4) the acquisition of Wimm-Bill-Dann, a Russian food company which produces milk, yogurt, fruit juices, and dairy products, (5) an aggressive expansion into emerging markets of China, India, Brazil and Russia.
In Nooyi has received the awards such as, Outstanding American by Choice Award, named No.1 in Fortunes list of the “50 Most Powerful Women” (Forbes.com, 2010) and No. 6 on Fortunes list of the “Worlds 100 most Powerful Women”. (Fortunes annual ranking of Americas leading businesswomen, 2010). Nooyis total direct compensation in 2011 was $19.63 million, which included her salary of $1.3 million, annual bonus of $3.0 million, stock option grants of $11.25 million and performance awards totaling $4.08 million. Nooyis compensation increased from the total direct compensation of $13.78 million in 2010. (Salem, 2012)
