Part 1: Search and Select- First step: I looked at the exhibit 1 of all 9 companies and only 5 companies show the financial account during period of 12/31/2009 – 12/31/2012. The rest of these five companies I cut them out due to the information that available were not the same period of Teuer Furniture.- Second: Analyzed the Exhibit 3 about each company’s detail in order to acquire the company strategy from five companies that I selected from the first step. From five company peer that I choose which is BSET, FBN, HVT, STLY, and TPX which each company has it own characteristic as follow:BSET:                * This company is a manufacturing and imports its products.                * Company’s segment in three parts wholesale, retail, and investments/real estate.                * Company’s channel through its owns stores, licensee-owned stores, and other furniture retailers, specialty stores and mass merchants.                 * Company’s real estate segment consists of retail real leased.                * Company’s has other investment in hauls freight and warehouses inventory.                * Company’s based in Virginia.FBN:                  * Sourcing and retailing home furnishing in the US and ‘international’                * Company’s channel through its own stores and other independent interior designers, mass merchant stores, and multi-line independent retailers.                * Offering products under difference brands name.                * Headquarter is located in Missouri.HVT:                * Company’s channel through its own stores only.                * Offering variety of products as well as mattress.                * Offering financing credit plan, third-party finance company.                * Purchase their products from difference source include domestic and international.                * Headquarter is located in Georgia.STLY:                * Products offering furniture for dining, bedroom, home office and children’s furniture.                * Offering products under difference brands name.                * Company’s channel through independent furniture stores, interior designers, specialty retailers, regional furniture chains, buying clubs and e-tailers.                * Based in Virginia.TPX:                * This company also three segments, one is Tempur North America- U.S. manufacturing and distribution subsidiaries, International manufacturing in Denmark and Sealy-company-owned and operated bedding and manufacturing located around the world.                 * Company channel through retailers, department stores, hospitals, nursing homes, company-owned stores, third-party distributors, and Internet.                * Company’s headquarter in Kentucky.Teuer Furniture:                * The company did not manufacturing by itself, however, it acquire their products from domestic producers.                * The products are furniture for all room; those are sofas, chairs and other furniture for family gathering purpose.                * The case description stated that Teuer has it own channel distributor throughout its own showrooms. In which has not only useful for show the products for its customers but also has a large selection inventory in its showroom as well.                 In compare with the business strategy, distributor channel and its customer segments. I could see that         BSET-could be eliminated from the peer group according to the company invested in variety of business as real estate and freight haul.         If consider only the channel of distributor, HVT could be the peer company that I could select because it has the same common channel. However, according to this company purchased its products from both domestic and international sources, this give me the reason to reluctant to choose. As well as FBN, that acquired its products from international source as well.          From all of these point, I quite confuse about the first five companies that I pick at the first step already. Due to none of these five have the most similarity characteristics as Teuer Furniture.I would like to see if our classmate could suggest other methodology in these first steps. I think that this could help me understand through this exercise.
