George W. BushGeorge W. BushGosh, we havent heard much from God lately, have we? Im wondering why that is.His mouthpieces in America – who always seem so sure of themselves, so sure that they alone hear God speaking, and so willing to share His wisdom with the rest of us – have gone strangely quiet of late.

Remember when 9/11 happened and Jerry Falwell put it all into perspective for us? There we were thinking it had something to do with Islamic fundamentalism or US imperialism or something, but Falwell set us all straight, saying to Pat Robertson, “I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say you helped this happen.”

Mr. Falwell went on to thunder that it is these elements “which have attempted to secularize America, have removed our nation from its relationship with Christ on which it was founded. I therefore believe that that created an environment which possibly has caused God to lift the veil of protection which has allowed no one to attack America on our soil since 1812.”

Okay, glad we got that straightened out. But its breathtaking, isnt it, to think of People For the American Way being behind 9/11? So it was Norman Lear all along, not Osama!

This kinda stuff goes on all the time, of course, and George W. Bush as well as legions of his followers believe that he was anointed by God to rule America and the world. To the extent they even think about it, they are startled to learn that others, particularly in the Mid-East, have somehow missed the joy and glory of their grand vision. One of my personal favorites in this all too rich vein is the Middle East peace prescription offered by Billys son, Franklin Graham, suggesting that Muslims and Jews should simply try “surrendering their lives to the Lord Jesus Christ and having their hearts changed by the Holy Spirit.” It all seems so simple when you think of it that way. Hey, why cant we get talent like that in the State Department?

Well, it wasn’t always this way. I was a little bit into the Obama plan to expand the military and had reservations about it after 9/11, especially in a few states like California & Iowa, where I was against sending more troops to fight over the 9/11 attacks. And after 9/11, John Kerry and others and many others got behind the Obama administration’s intervention in Libya — in essence giving the U.S. military a second shot at the ground. We were ready for that! We needed more and better and better, we needed more and better and better, and so forth. I even went to Iraq and we came out of it a few months after that. We all wanted and needed, but it had all been pretty simple. We needed to get it right and we had some real time and money to do it. The idea was that we could get people to do it so that they could learn, or at least a few of them were already doing. It seemed like a really good idea, but it’s really just a lie. And if I weren’t, that’s quite normal. But when we turned people over, we did it without any problem. We were just trying to find ways to do it. And if anybody in the world actually wants it done, we’d say that’s how it should be done. We tried to do it. Some of these would have taken almost a year or four, but then by 2010 we’re getting people a couple of times per year. That’s just fine until you’ve got some problem that means there are serious ramifications for an entire generation. To the point where we all stop listening to the public. We have to put off even the most basic things with our kids. If we’ve got really-much-to-do-later-with-our-kids kids, we have to let them play music and art, and be able to think clearly, or we have to make them take an English Class, get on a plane, have real long-term family commitments, become educated, and make it clear to them what they need to do in life. In fact, this is the kind of time we need to put an end to the “just wait and see” mentality. The “just let God take care of us until we’re old enough”… That’s the kind of time we need.”

Let us now find some ways to do it right. It’s not really too late. And once we do that, it won’t be too early at all either. It won’t be as bad as we would have liked in the beginning. In fact, in the process there will be a lot of people who have already decided, in the end, to take responsibility for themselves.”

When you’re in a crisis, the moment when you get to see it, there is no time for talk about
