Handy Hands Inc.Essay title: Handy Hands Inc.IntroductionDescription of ServiceHandy Hands Inc. is a service-based organization that provides a one-stop shopping option for homeowners’ repair and maintenance needs. We employ hard working handymen who are able to do a wide range of tasks in and around the house. This includes low to medium size home repair jobs and light remodeling but nothing as extensive as building rooms or finishing a basement.
The goal of our service is to allow customers to call one company for everything they need. We will save homeowners the time and costs associated with contracting out to many tradesmen for a few simple repairs, and the hassles encountered with scheduling many workers instead of just one.
PricingFurthermore, our price is charged by the hour rather than by the job. Therefore, customers can hire our handymen for a number of hours and assign them a collection of small tasks that cannot be priced by the job. We feel that since homeowners have little or no time to look after their homes, we offer a convenient, affordable option for them.
Goals & ObjectivesOur personal goals are to gain entrepreneurial experience and develop practical business skills. We would also like to gain some financial independence by working for ourselves and learning how to make challenging decisions.
Our financial goals include a return on investment of 20% per member after the first two years from our initial investment of $5000 each. Also, we would like to maximize our benefits to risk ratio: we are willing to take calculated risks, but none that will lead us to personal financial difficulty. Our objective is to build a strong financial base for our company within the first three years in order for continued company growth, including expansion into other areas of Ontario to allow for full-time employment for each founder.
Corporate CapabilitiesHuman ResourcesHaving evaluated what is required to operate Handy Hands Inc. we are confident that the five partners will be able to run it successfully. Our strengths include that three of our members have experience in working in small family businesses, and one that has run his own summer business. Also, one of our members has an extensive background in bookkeeping and administrative duties and two members have long service-based backgrounds. Conversely, our major weakness is that none of the partners has any direct experience in the home repair industry. Although some of us have grown up with a family business, we do not have any direct experience in running a permanent venture such as this. However, we are a very energetic and dedicated team and work well together and feel that our experience and personal capabilities will provide us with the resources to overcome our weaknesses.
The only problem we have is with all of the partners. The first year of our operation, we were able to make our business grow exponentially. We’ve built the foundation to operate a one of a kind home remodeling business for over two decades without any problems. We’re now a fully-fledged home repair company with a commitment to expanding across the company. As you may know, our customers have purchased more than 700,000 square feet of office space over the years. As we know, it is not uncommon for other U.S. companies to have large, successful private businesses that require significant investment. This does not mean that we do not invest in the future. In fact, it does mean that we have a business plan that, while not perfect, can always be improved. Our focus is on being successful in a growing business, and we look forward to serving you at every opportunity we can in what is a world where we may be considered a success. As a result, we have made major changes to meet our growth mission, including:• We are expanding our home remodeling business with a commitment to a focus on expanding across the company as well as developing a new business model to operate in the home. The current model of providing comprehensive services to those we serve would eliminate a few of our opportunities when managing other businesses or simply creating an independent business.• We have started exploring other non-profit partnerships to partner in our business model, so we consider that to be an attractive goal to pursue. The primary concern for many of our partners is that there aren’t enough home renovation businesses in the United States that cater to the needs of their clients, and even though we believe we can make the most of the low return on capital and the business model we plan on operating in, there is still a significant cost to us in terms of our growth of the business and overall business model. We want to understand why this can be a problem and seek out solutions. When we have an opportunity to reach out to existing and prospective partners, we will take action in the interest of maximizing the returns they can make on their investments. For example, we could use our existing employees to assist with our new home remodeling. And we could continue to invest in and support our expanding business. As both of us, we have experienced many successful success stories along the way, with successes at different points in time. And we realize that it is our common desire that our companies grow over time. We know it can be hard to focus on anything and most importantly, that there are so many hurdles to overcome. However, having some of these challenges in hand is our goal. We know that the challenges we face are not as severe as others we face, but the same challenges that people face, in their own homes, can apply to different solutions. We also know that there is a wealth of other assets there that we can leverage to make sure that more of our customers receive the same levels of service that we offer as they do in our own homes. We know that there are numerous businesses with the capacity to make us money but that we can always seek out and invest these assets in a variety of ways to do the right thing for the customer. Of course, there will always be challenges, and not all solutions bring the same rewards. These are our biggest concerns.• In the home remodeling business, we have seen some significant changes to our business operations and organizational model. As we move through this process, I have been working closely with the partners for several years to address several specific issues. In part one of this process, we will discuss all of the details of all of our business changes, and then we will explore some potential opportunities to see what potential solutions
