Should Information Available on the Internet Be Censored?
Should information available on the internet be censored? Information can be found everywhere on the internet, but should it be censored, or should it be freely available to everyone? It goes either way. Uncensored information can be a pro and a con for many people, depending on the usage of the information found online.Uncensored information is information that is freely available to everyone. This availability causes transparancy between the layers of society. Personal information can be sought for and shared by everyone, which in effect poses the threat of the creation of malicious posers. It is easy for hackers and other frauds to copy the identity of someone based on the findings of the victim on an online search engine. Nearly every bit of personal information is available through: social media, online news papers, ancistry records etc. This means that it is easy for frauds to find out the personal information of unknowing victims, just by searching the name of their victim on the internet.
If information would be censored to a certain extent, people in general would be safer in means of extreme content they are actually not willing to see, the personal information which would be left out and the ambiguity which exists because of the oversharing of information by people. In a large extent, conflicting, subjective information is too readily availabe to people. People should not be able to have too much information to their availability, since the information agreed upon by those people will be used and shared in contrast to the information disagreed upon. This overload of information is the reason of most trust issues in regards to products and services, people do not consider the things they want to read as false information, people do not consider the information to be a hazard. If the information available on the internet will be censored in the future, questions of importance would be: Too what degree will information be censored? Will it be censored to keep people away from shocking content or will it be censored to limit people their perception to a certain extent? If the information on the internet will be censored in order to keep the users of the internet away from shocking content, then I think that it is a good idea to a certain extent. It is ambigious what can be perceived by people as shocking, as people experience such content in a personal way rather than a generally accepted way. The censorship of shocking content could also lure people into producing more shocking content by themselves and sharing it through an underground network of people.
