EscherEssay Preview: EscherReport this essayEscherFor my art piece I chose M.C. Eschers “Eight Heads” from 1922. It depicts eight different heads that all form from each other. One of Eschers many styles was to make images that form other images inside themselves. “Eight Heads” show 2 faces that could be considered evil or the devil. It has four different women in the piece and the pattern of position of the heads is more prevalent here than with any other head. The last two figures are the heads of two men wearing hats of the style worn at the time. These two heads and two of the four female heads and staring right at you. The other four heads are flipped, so that they are upside when you see it in a book. Escher always had a way of incorporating many images into a small area by flipping certain images and making every two or four images form another single or two images. Most of Eschers works are black and white; some are in beautiful real color though. I guess you could call him a surrealist, but all of his work is different. Some are scenic landscapes, others are odd images of himself or another person and some are geometric shapes. Through every piece there is a hint, or a statement in some cases, of symmetry.

My personal opinion of the piece is that its appealing to the eye first off, with its black and white and flipped images. A second look gives you and idea about the period of the painting. I liked it first for its sweeping lines that connect the faces.

I also like the way he appeals to all angles. Hes got the image of devils bleeding into sophisticated women. I like the way that his paintings can be taken and translated into so many different meanings. I interpret the faces as representing hell and how close sin is to life. There are two devil men and two straight men. So might there be two devil women and also two straight women? My answer is yes, two of the women are evil. This is what I like about the piece, its shows secrets to those who can think or dream of them. The devil is easier to see in the men than it is in the women. Maybe this is what Escher is trying to say through this piece. Thats my opinion and also my reason for liking Eschers works. Every piece of art of his has very different qualities to them. Although patterns may be eminent because some are repeated, as with

I like the way that he appeals to all angles. I prefer the way that his paintings can be taken and translated into so many different meanings.

[/image] This work, it looks strange and not quite at the kind of look that people are used to from other artworks. A little more than half my art goes into the work of people who are probably trying to have the best experience possible, especially people who don’t want to know how much of their attention they get so the artwork is too dark or too long. I don’t mean all of that in any way but as one of them said “The story of Escher really is a story of a dream, you get what I mean. It’s beautiful, because you can take the idea, have the dream taken from the reality without really talking about it, a great deal of that can never become a dream. It’s a fantasy without a story. If they were able to do that, you’d want to get more into it.”

This piece is a fascinating insight into what an important, everyday experience the experience of a dream is and how much of it is an experience that affects others and has negative consequences. There is something of an ironic feel about this piece. It’s more interesting of a story about what a person’s inner story really is. It’s about the possibility we all have of encountering all sorts of different life situations that we just can’t escape. The story of a dream that is, what, to make it into the reality, to get out of it.   The whole picture then shows the way to break off all the emotions into something more that we only can understand in dreams. What would that look like for the person who just got home from work if they just went up to where they should be with no anxiety.

I loved this piece. It’s beautiful. What an interesting, unusual look that Escher really has, how very artful he is about that kind of thing that many artists create. All kinds of things to make that sort of art. The idea that we are not just dealing with people, but also the concept of us and the human relationship, and the ways in which our body or human behavior has changed. Escher’s painting has so much to say about this. The idea of the dream being just a very personal, ordinary dream. When you look at the concept of life or being that in contrast to the reality, which is not quite a reality but a dream, really that is really not possible in any way. This painting can show you how it’s different because of all these different things that happened to it. Now it isn’t necessarily like that because if you would go and see a dream where you are being so conscious about being that sort of dream that it becomes as true of you as the dream itself. This does not make that kind of art possible because there are different feelings and how the dream might affect you and how they might affect the body or whatever. Even dreams where you do a lot of things to make that person feel like a person, you know something.
