SuenramGEN/200June 24, 2013Shanell StefinPersonal ResponsibilityDictionary.com defines responsible as being “answerable or accountable, as for something within ones own power.” To me, Personal Responsibility is to be responsible, answerable and accountable for ones own well being. This covers all aspects of ones life, such as health, wealth, success and well being. For example, if you do not have enough money to retire on, and depend on someone else to support you, then you are not personally responsible for your wealth.
In order for one to be successful on college, one needs to be responsible in their time management as well as their wealth management. If you are irresponsible in your personal time management and choose to spend your time doing something fun rather than work on your class assignments, then you are not going to be very successful in your college education. You also have to keep in mind you finances. College is not cheap. Are you going to pay for class materials or spend the money on a plane ticket to Hawaii for a week. Now, sure Hawaii is awesome, but someone who is a responsible student will choose the class materials.
Personal Responsibility was always grilled into me growing up. I was taught that, even though the choices you make may affect others, you are the one who will be affected the most, good or bad. If you make a poor, irresponsible decision, you are the one who will suffer from it the most. And I was also taught to not depend on others for anything. Be totally and completely personally responsible for you own actions and your own needs. If you need more money, work more, dont depend on someone who works harder than you to support you. If you need more time, be more responsible on how you spend your time. We can never get extra time. And if you are hungry, cook yourself something to eat!
There are a few areas in my life that I could possibly improve upon. One such area is my time management. This is an area that I have struggled with most of my life. Though I am not usually late for an appointment or a meeting, I do find that I tend to waste a lot of my free time. There are times when I come home from work, and before I know it, a few hours have gone by, and it is time to get to sleep. I find that this is even worse when I have television. I love history and find that I can waste a whole day just watching the History and H2 Channels! It got even worse two years ago when I discovered DVR! Needless to say, I gave up all TV just over a month ago. I knew I was going to need to focus more on school.
In addition to having an internet connection, I have a number of other things to do when I am out and around. My favorite time is at Christmas, the entire time I am traveling in a foreign country. Sometimes I am able to walk in a park, but I am always worried. It takes about an hour to bring my camera with me from home to visit the shop during the holidays and to be able to film my work. There is so much to do while traveling the U.S., and these are just a few of the things that you will be able to accomplish while I am out, too.
My main goal for this year is to find a job. It is something that I will definitely need to do in order to be able to do this part of my life again, like always. It is something I have been wanting to do for quite a while. I have been trying to find an job in Canada for the last year or so, and the results have been amazing! This is definitely something to keep an eye on. I want to stay here and be able to go visit all that I know! The best part was finding and going to the store for groceries! I even bought something pretty special for Christmas and my dog did not only love it in the fridge, it even made food in there! It was amazing! I plan on going back here this fall and working at an ad agency. I hope to add other things to my itinerary over the next few months until I find my niche and my income grows.
