Personal Statement for Accounting and Finance
One of the differences between man and other species is the ability of man to plan the future for themselves; this ability to plan will be wasted without capability in execution of steps needed to achieve the goal. I have grown up in a family with average income, where the ability to budget oversea education is not foreseeable without planning. Once decided for my oversea education, my parents started performing annual budgeting and recorded monthly cash flow. Over the years, this practice allows them to foresee whether the goal is achievable years ahead. In order to achieve this goal and realizing that we must not be the slave of it, based on our financial strength given by the simple but accurate accounting, my parents set out financial activities that strengthen our financial standing and seeking alternative investment that boost our income. We realize that the capability of accounting in providing the status of a situation, being well informed enable us to strategize and execute financial activities that enable us to achieve far reaching goals, and yet allow us to enjoy a balance life and not just scarification.
Our living experience sparked me to attend accounting classes in school; I was further amazed by the people who invented double-book entry bookkeeping system. The system manages to record all the financial information by only two entries which are debit and credit. It creates an easier way for businessmen to record their incomes, liabilities, expenses, which enable them put forward their financial records in business dealing.
I have always been curious about what kind of risk we need to take to start a business? I questioned why? Warren Buffet can become a successful investor but some people go bankrupt because of a wrong decision. How does the bank decide to give a loan or not? Why did the 2008 recession occur? All these questions have surrounded me for years and I believe studying finance will be able to quench my thirst and answer my questions.
Both lessons from the class and life experience reinforced my interest in accounting and finance, which lead to my decision to pursue this course for my first degree. From that decision point, I also believe that I need to have a broad base knowledge, therefore even though I have decided to do accounting and finance for my first degree, I have chosen to study science in my A-level certification. Science taught me the basis of physical world and finance requires logical thinking process in a fluid environment, blending these hard and soft skills will create a persona that is effective, flexible and agile.
