Topshop History
TopShop is a British multinational retailer which specialises in fashion clothing, shoes, make-up and acessories.TopShop started in 1964 in the basement of Peter Robinson as “Peter Robinsons TopShop” a youthful fashion brand within the Sheffield branch of defunct British department store chain. TopShop is a part of the long standing retail force of the arcadia group which wholly is owned by Sir Philip Green which also includes burton, Dorothy Perkins and miss Selfridge.
TopShop has around 440 shops across 33 countries and online operations in a number of markets. The first standalone TopShop store opened in 1974.Topman was created as a spin off brand to cater for male customers and is now running as a separate chain although some stores are co-located. As they have discovered TopShop has a very diverse customer profile especially because their customers start at a very young age. When TopShop first launched in the 1960’s it was mainly targeting women aged 13-25 but now there is something for early teens to fifty something women.
