Bullying Report Melissa Timmons BSHS/325 Maria Perrotta, MA MEd ABD[a]Bullying[b] affects adolescents in many ways. What is bullying exactly? Bullying is about taking control over person[c] causing them to feel helpless, powerless, and lose a sense of their self. Bullying is a form of aggression that is taken out on an unsuspecting person. Bullies tend to seek out the weak and break them down more. Because when someone feels less about themselves, it shows and can give bullies the opportunity to bully that person. There are many forms of bullying such as[d]: physically, mentally, emotionally, and verbally. Bullying is all about power, control, and abuse. Bullying isn’t ok by any means. Bullying in human development is a study that continues to grow. The issue in studying bullying there[e] is that there is no absolute cure or proper research for the problem. With not many surveys to reference to researchers are finding it challenging to figure out bullying and the cause of it. Bullies are often stereotyped as being mean and aggressive and those being bullies are labeled as being weak and passive. Even though being bullied and being the bully are completely different the individuals may have common situations[f]. We as school professionals need to be aware and educate ourselves about the signs of bullying to prevent it from continuing to happen in our schools. There are three different ways in which adolescent’[g]s bully one another they[h] are: Verbal – Verbal bullying is name calling, making fun of them for some reason or another, excluded from things, and spreads rumors. Verbal bullying can be either direct or indirect. Direct is when the bully calls you names to your face and indirect is when the bully calls you names behind your back. Physical- Physical bullying is the act of touching another in their personal space for their enjoyment by pushing, shoving, and tripping just to name a few. Cyber- Cyberbullying is when the bully decides to use e-mail, social media, text, and or any form of technology to intimidate another person. All these forms of bullying can break an adolescents’ emotional development and can also cause problems into adulthood.
