The Piano Lesson
The artists motivation in the artwork “The Piano Lesson” is to enforce the typical atmosphere in which a person practices the piano on. In America the movies that involve a character playing a piano typically have the scenery the author has displayed in his painting “The Piano Lesson.” In the art work, the character is practicing the piano in calm scenery. The windows are open to an atmosphere of plainness. In addition, the artist made sure that the only character that would be involved in the painting would be the one playing the piano to show the quietness one needs to focus on the piano.
The type of art expression expressed in this art work is representational. Previously, I stated that the art work represented the typical atmosphere of a human being playing a piano. The windows are open to an atmosphere of calmness. The author did not place drama in the background because drama would not represent the quiet atmosphere a typical person playing a piano would require. In addition, the author placed the character alone practicing the piano. This is also an example because a person playing the piano does not play with distraction around their area.
The visual elements used and seen in this work are color, and texture. The smooth texture, and color helps the audience focus on the calm atmosphere. The colors are plain, which, helps focus the audience in the quiet, and calm atmosphere. If the author were to choose extreme colors the mood of peacefulness changes to a mood of excitability.
