How to Lose an American Election in 10 Minutes or LessWinning an election takes hard word, dedication, and perseverance to get through the day-to-day tribulations. However, it only takes one wrong word, gesture, or action to ruin all the work done by the numerous people involved in campaigning. Just in watching recent news, I saw plenty of candidates, on both sides of the aisle, which have perfected the art of losing an election in America. From one Republican sending e-mails of women and animals in crude sexual acts, to a Democrat calling a rival candidate a “whore,” these fine folks and many more have shown that no amount of money or manpower will save a campaign from the candidates themselves.
The only thing keeping the country safe is a candidate that can be counted on to work hand in hand with the grassroots. When our country was not safe, it was too late. We now need a candidate who shows that, despite the flaws in the current Republican Party, we can and do manage our issues.

Political campaigns are notoriously expensive and stressful. Candidates have to get the attention of the public to ever hope to get a vote, but more and more candidates are getting the wrong kind of attention – and a lot of it. Usually the general public will completely forget about the months of stump speeches and baby-kissing that came before a candidates major flaw in personal judgment. Electronic media and television are constantly updating the American public about which new family values proponent just got caught in an affair, or who said the most offensive thing on live T.V. this week.
Watching the news is always more entertaining around election season; each network dedicates at least a few news segments about politicians, Republican and Democrat, making complete asses of themselves. Turn to CNN and watch Anderson Cooper talking about how a democratic candidate, Jerry Browns, was recorded in a conversation calling a rival republican candidate, Meg Whitman, a “whore.” Turn the channel to MSNBC and there is Keith Olberman sharing his views about republican candidate Sarah Palins decision to read notes off of her hand, or about her new hobby of inventing words. Cable channels such as Comedy Central and HBO have popular shows whose hosts flaunt the bone-headed dealings of our American political figures. Christine ODonnel had to release a campaign ad reputing that she was a witch because of statements she made almost twenty years ago on a late-night, political
show on CBS in 1993: “We’re not talking about Hillary Clinton. We’re talking about Rick Santorum. We’re talking about all of the candidates for public office who are using the word ‘Hillary.'”
On June 26, 1992 at around 02:50am EDT, Tom Brokaw announced that, if he’d had a better night, his next campaign stop would be on his way to Indiana, where the race for the Iowa Secretary of State would be held. The next day, I saw his phone ringing. I could barely do the exact same thing over and over. That was three weeks ago, and the time he had planned to talk to his children that day had passed, not long after that in fact, it had turned into yesterday, just five hours before. Why has he lost? Well, let me try to figure it out. He hasn’t even come to me. He’s been on the TV, or on the radio, or maybe in the front pages of the most powerful newspaper in the United States. But he hasn’t come to me. His life has been like his life and that, if he didn’t have a better night, he wouldn’t have been running for the office. It’s too much of a risk. He was there, and he has no idea why he lost. He doesn’t think even if he wins, he has no idea. He keeps blaming himself. I’m just trying to figure out why he didn’t come around to me or why he thought I couldn’t see what he was doing, why I am a fool for thinking he didn’t see it; because my son is a political operative now, too. He thinks that anyone who is running will see it as a distraction, and, at some point in time, an opportunity to take his place. It has been no good, and I’ll never trust anyone to get out of bed, because they want a distraction to distract you from how they can help you take some of this stuff that they say they aren’t going to take on your hand. It had really become clear, last week, and we are witnessing an election, and these stories have gotten to the point where it’s difficult to imagine a better than awful candidate. A lot of the people now running are going to spend a lot of time and energy over the next couple of years looking at how it’s all going to look. It’s going to be difficult if you don’t see what has happened. You have to stop it. And you have to make it stop, or you get the idea that it’s happening, that things can be made even worse for you than it is for me by just being aware of what the next president has done, what’s going on in New Hampshire, what you’re saying, and what you think. That’s why I’m here. I’m here, and I’m talking about something that’s going to happen on November 6 and that’s coming at a very slow pace. It’s a tough road—a tough road, really. But I think we can all understand and trust that, that the time to go out and talk about this election is not going to come because one doesn’t know who your opponent is. This is, after all, the election of tomorrow. And we shouldn’t look ahead to this to feel discouraged. These are not mere statements that can be put to the test. It’s a record of an incident, at least with hindsight, that should have been avoided. Unfortunately, a media company can do worse than to throw out the record altogether. It has to pay a very heavy price for it. If any of these reports actually happened, they would have been covered by the Federal Communications Commission before the internet exploded. Rather than be a cause for outrage, the internet had us all going.
One thing is to be feared (or feared for), the Internet. For these reasons, we are not ready for more. It’s a threat to the safety of the human body, but it’s also a real threat to our right to life. We would much rather go on living and running and using technology to do our job, not having to give up our right to freedom of speech. It has to be done if we want to survive, or not to.

This was a public relations campaign by Media Matters, an anti-choice watchdog, to get public views into online conversation and push their brand of conservative policies. They were caught for spreading false information about the ACA, Obamacare, Fox News and the media for reasons and without knowing what information they were spreading.
The reason Media Matters was caught is because they misrepresented what “information” they were spreading and gave erroneous information to the population; only a few thousand people are exposed to its material.
I am not saying that this is a complete ban on internet speech. In fact, one of the most important things we can teach as parents and as Americans is how to deal with those who are willing to risk their own body, our freedoms of expression, our health, our national security.
Our right to choose to live our lives according to the beliefs of others is protected under the First Amendment. Our right to freedom of speech is at risk if we are forced to spread the wrong news or a false story about another’s health, or a false accusation at a party without the person to call the cops. We would rather die for our country than tolerate such acts.
It is time we speak out. It is time we stop telling others what they want to hear and tell us what we don’t want to hear – about the false claims of politicians seeking to promote their corporate interests across the American landscape, and the false statements of people who want to be politicians and are trying to do their jobs instead of helping the American people.
