Chris Gardner who is trying to make he and his family a better living. He was conned into using his family savings in investing in a few bone-density scanner which do not have much value in the market. The story continues with him meeting with Jay Twistle, a manager of Dean Witter. He impresses Jay by solving the Rubiks cube and earned himself an opportunity to interview as an intern in Dean Witter.
The stories follow by his wife, Linda who couldnt take it anymore. She left Chris Gardner with their son, Chris and work as a housekeeper in New York. Chris Gardner had almost lost everything and he couldnt afford to lose his son anymore. At last, he won over the custody of his son but that was also where the bad luck really starts to Chris Gardner. He was financially not stable so he was force to paint his house himself. Police officers came knocking his door and ask him to pay up his car summons even though he no longer own a car. After paying up the summons, he still has to be put behind the bars until the paperwork is being filled on the next morning. Meanwhile, he still has an interview on the next morning and has to send his son to the day care centre. He had no choice but to call up his wife and beg her to take care of his son for a day.
The father was brought in by the government to have a second term, but to do so, he had to sue the government for civil fraud since the Government of the Free State was in denial about the alleged fraud. They denied it and then took him to a judge. But the judge ordered him to remain in custody until the matter was resolved. When he left he started to complain of mental retardation causing him to be sicked up with a cold and then in the next day and night had to be taken back to the centre. With the help of his wife Linda he started to get better while also being able to have his mother in school. In the end, after the court hearing, the father lost his work income to an accident and now live on his own in the country. While he is working on a home with his mother he comes on with his wife and three children for a year. By the end of 2014, his son was in a state of deep depression and the childcare centre was already in trouble. To help, Chris chose the city of San Diego. Chris Gardner, who was born and raised in San Diego but never went to school, had received a private house in a small town in Texas called San Jose. He came there expecting a new life with more flexibility than he would ever get in the United States. After he arrived in Texas, he decided to attend a university. One day when he was leaving Texas, he noticed that people were talking about him, asking about his university, his career, his wife Linda and what he could do for them to stay fit financially. He wanted all of these people to believe that he did something for all of them. The last few days and weeks, he has been talking about his wife and kids. After a lot of thought, he decided (as you can see in this photograph) that the last thing he wanted was to become a housemate in Dallas. Chris and Linda have an amazing plan to build a family together, while still being able to take care of his son.
