In the book Founding Brothers by Joseph J.Ellis is a historical non-fiction book that
asses certain events during the 1787 Constitutional Convention of moments both in
revolutionizing America and the lives of the founding fathers which are Washington, Adams,
Jefferson, Madison, Franklin, and Hamilton.
In the first chapter, it states the most famous duel in America that happened on July 11
between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr because of personal reputation of a nascent
government. Once at a dinner, between Jefferson, Madison, and Hamilton met up, set aside their
political differences to compromise a plan to pay off the national debt and locate the nations new
capital in the South. There was an issue of slavery, both the Quakers and Franklin urged the
House of Representatives to debate an end to the African slave trade which outraged the
southerners and demanded the issue to be dropped. While the north attempted the issue without
discussion. Washingtons retirement from his presidency was not a sign of failure, but of strength
and foresight. Because of this, he knew how powerful his influence was to the colonists and by
setting a two term presidency he would ensure the strength of the country. As well for Adams
