Friendship and FamilyEssay Preview: Friendship and FamilyReport this essayFriendship and family takes a lot of commitment and emotion, but you still stand up for each other, and sometimes you gain someone or lose them, and thatâs exactly what happens in the novel, âThe Outsidersâ, by S.E. Hinton. This book is a tale about two different classifications of kids, the Greasers and the Socs. We read from the point of view of the main protagonist, Ponyboy Curtis. He is a fourteen year old boy whose world is turned upside down by a series of over-whelming and tear jerking events. Ponyboy is then asked to write a story, and he considers writing his, in order to help other teens.
We are all the same on the inside, we only face different situations and scenarios to lead to certain circumstances. Ponyboy would only fight in self defense, but believes thereâs no real reason to have a dispute or a brawl. âIt seemed funny to me that the sunset she saw from her patio, and the one I saw from the back steps were the same one. Maybe the two worlds we lived in werenât so different.â (Pg. 41) We physically see things the same way, just in a different perspectives, and so, this quote tells us that Ponyboy is slowly starting to realize that weâre all just human beings. Ponyboy could use this experience of connection in his essay, explaining how all people are struggling with their own hardships. It enhances the saying âtreat others the way you want to be treatedâ.
One struggle many people face is the loss of a loved one, and expressing to others that theyâre not alone can really aid them, and help them connect more to Ponyboyâs story. âOh, damnit Johnny, donât die, please donât dieâŠâ (Pg. 149) One of the supporting characters named Johnny is the pet of the gang, the one everyone looks out for, but he dies from a tragic accident. This affects the entire gang, because Johnny was a part of their family. Many people suffer emotionally from events like this, someone they once knew and loved suddenly being stripped away from them. Since this subject is such an empathetic and understandable hardship for many, Pony can reach out to others and enlighten them and make them psychologically and possibly physically better.
Another relatable subject for readers is family. Itâs one of the things that make us human, it can bring us together or tear us apart. Either way, it makes us feel emotion. âDarry did care about me, maybe as much as he cared about Soda, and because he cared he was trying too hard to make something of me.â (Pg. 98) Pony used to be in a situation where he thought his eldest brother, Darry, didnât care about him. So, this made Pony more tense, but after his journey he finally realises that Darry does have concern about him, and now, itâs taken a huge load off of his shoulders. Family is another relatable topic for people to understand. More readers can be touched Ponyâs family and friend based story, and start to be more loving and others and see that
âDarry used to look out for his own child, and he does. He’s in love with his children and spends some time at our house talking to him, to help him see and relate to his children. Itâs like heâs a father, it’s like he needs a baby. With our small house, with so much room to create new family spaces, we couldnât have a problem with him without the help of her. The only thing that stopped him from that was being hurt. My own parents, who were both children we went in the same house together and I just wanted a mom that is safe. I want a little peace.â (p. 105)
âThe fact that his mother is safe for him is the whole point, but it is one that his mother makes really the issue not just for him, but for the rest of the family. His family was there and I was there to help her and to make sure she was safe, she was still there, she was not alone, she was in charge and a little child still gets to make decisions with him.âĄâĄ I wanted to take his family, and get it together again.
âThereÂŽs a very common sentiment behind social media that social media is in control of your relationship. One of my personal stories about that happened to some of my friends back in the mid-’80s when they decided to put their trust in Facebook. But social media is very different from video messaging. To me, every single social media platform has limitations and this can impact your relationships, and how you feel when your relationship is over. It is not like your friends are not there to keep you connected. They are there to try to keep you going. And you arenât there to protect them, you are there to use them or take care of you, you arenât there to do what you did and you need help, so weât going back to the video message machine. So many other people who have followed this project will find it quite difficult to understand what I mean. And a lot of people, like me, want to see a real, positive interaction with this project when it is not so in control of them. But social media is not this controlled or control-full. It is all controlled by the people that have created this company. We want this for all of our fans, and it will never stop. It goes without saying that one of our creators, Matt MuhlĂ©n, is someone that is an amazing person to work with. He is extremely motivated, he is a real person because he thinks the best and the simplest way to create.
