rozayThroughout the history of the Unites states, there have always been issues with the governments policies on education. Its an on going struggle that has been going on for ages. These issues go back as far as segregation where students couldnt even be in the same school if they were not of proper color, much less the same classroom. In todays world, the issues are not nearly as massive but there still seems to be a wide range of them and they require immediate attention. School supplies, standardized testing, curriculum, teachers and funding are among the top of the list for concerned citizens. Unfortunately, education is still one of the most talked about and controversial issues in the United States. So far, the privilege or right to receive a good education has not been a main priority nor has it gotten the level of fairness for all regions throughout the nation. Poor areas (inner cities, urban areas) obtain less funding than rich areas (suburbs, or outside of the city) who obtain more. This creates huge gap between the quality of schools and the quality of education provided for each student.
Each district in the United States provides their schools with a certain amount of funds. These funds are limited to certain things that need to be dealt with in the school community. In order for a school to successfully function it needs supplies. Theses supplies are books, writing utensils, computers and educational trips/videos. In inner city communities schools that have a higher student to teacher ratio they tend to require more supplies.
Schools are only given a certain amount of funds that they need to stick to the guidelines and list given to them by the government. In some cases there is a lot more students that anticipated in one classroom. For example, if the government gives funds for books of kids in a classroom of twenty kids and there are twenty five kids in the class than issues arise. Kids are going to start sharing books, photo copies are going to be made in order for homework to be assigned and so on.
These list and guidelines are important to stick by in order for a pupil to be well educated or get the best education possible. In urban areas and public schools funds are solely provided by the government where as in suburban areas and private schools funds are provided by the parents and the government. This clearly demonstrates the difference between both school systems. William Galston a school district official in the United State said, “There are important gaps in resources between many of the wealthier jurisdictions and many of the poorer jurisdictions. Money matters in education”. So in thinking on this issue there are many other people who agree that there is a lack of resources in urban schools due to the lack of funding. So where are the funds being place, and in what school districts?
Even though there is one school system, I strongly believe
