Crime has significantly increased in the UAE in the last few years and it seems to be getting out of control. Usually, people commit crimes due to desperation, poor income, poor education, and peer pressure. Many experts believe that some people are born as natural criminals. However, this is not true. A persons tendency to acquire criminal habits depends upon the environment he/she is brought up in. Although, the causes of crime are indefinite, the major ones are poverty and greed for power, peer influence and alcohol and drug abuse.
Nowadays, one of the biggest reasons of crime is poverty or its extreme end, greed for power or money. There are plenty of reasons poverty affects crime. Firstly, poor people are psychologically weaker than the rich because of the hardships they have to face. This can lead to high levels of stress, resulting in robbery. Secondly, people in dire poverty usually steal out of desperation and lack of proper nutrition. Since they are unable to feed themselves or their families, they consider stealing as the only solution to their misery. Finally, unemployment also increases peoples need for money and this also causes an increase in crime rates. Some people who lose their jobs have no way of supporting themselves and consequently, they resort to stealing and other forms of crime. While poverty usually causes people to steal, other forms of crime, such as murders, may also be committed. On the other hand, people with lots of money may also commit crimes. Take, for instance, the mafia in Mexico; it is known for fact that their drug trade with the American black market earns them billions, if not trillions, of dollars every year. One would think that they had no need of committing crimes to stock up their already up-to-the-brim money safes, but their lust for more money causes them to commit even more crimes. These schemes can include illegally cheating other people. Such people have a strong desire for control and this forces them to commit crimes such as murder and rape. Moreover, they spend a lot of time and money planning their crimes. Because of poverty and excessive greed for money, lots of people become victims of crime.
Another significant cause of crime is peer pressure. Peoples character depends on the kind of environment they are brought up in and the kind of friends they have. Also, poor parenting skills are a positive aspect in the making of a criminal. Children who do not get proper education or are weaker than other students often get left behind which makes them more vulnerable to committing crimes. Such kids then join gangs which in a way earns them respect. If a child is brought up in an environment based on moral principles, he/she has a bright future; however, if they are brought up in a predominantly immoral environment,
