i am a student in a university and i want to have service in lietarure field, to get help and analysis of major literary works by different writers
some novels such as Wasgington Square which is wrote by Henry James
In this paper I am trying to treat an important issue which concerns the position and life of two subjugated classes, poor
and women. By examining such an issue in Britain and Europe in 1880s and how
social writers like” Thomas Carlyle”, feminist writers like ” Mary Wollstonecraft”,
deal with the severe life of poor and women in that era. I try to be examining this
matter, investigating truths, defending the two classes, and supporting with solutions
totally in depend upon ideas and opinions of the writers. My intended audience is the
teacher, classmates, anyone interested in such subjects in particular the social
associations.
I start by showing the sufferance of poor in Britain in time of 1800s, how they
suffered in many sectors of life; they had not integrity nor respect by the upper class
people. They had to pay huge taxes while they had not good beneficial jobs. Then I
show the bitter truth of certain ideas such as democracy or” liberty” and how it
contradicts in a realism. Then comes the solutions that are suggested by the writer to
the poor to defend themselves in order to enhance their life.
after that, I am explaining the position of women in the same era nearly and how
they suffered in various ways; in education, time, home, job, entertainment, and
productivity. I insert ideas of many feminist writers who are treating this issue in their
writings. Ending with different pieces of advice toward women by those writers in
order to change their depressing situation and to get rid of the marginalization.
The main purpose that I am trying to convey indirectly is ” a comparison “; what
was happening to those two parts of society in ancient time and in different countries
in comparison to what is going on nowadays in all parts of the world and particularly
in our country. Another important purpose is to get results and to enhance the critical
ability to the readers in order to share in changing toward the better.
We all are created by one God and were given the same divine rights away from any racist look or any discrimination in treatment. But, life underwent many changes which have been brought by many causes that caused a terrible transformation in certain fields such as the new appearance or look of Democracy. Nowadays, the concept of social issues such as Democracy ,women issues, have gained huge currency. Democracy, which is one of the most complex ideas since long years ago, has played a big role in societies and different nations; it entails many controversial discussions such as the life of poor or the situation of women in society, in addition to the miss-implementation of democracy which problematized a wretched life of the poor and women. In 1880s, the life of both, poor and women, in Great Britain was cruel at all, and that urged some philosophers to criticize such a situation as Thomas Carlyle who wrote” Past and Present” and Mary Wollstonecraft who wrote ” A Vindication of the Rights of Woman”. In his book ” Past and Present” Thomas Carlyle tries in the chapter of “democracy”, to highlight the problems that stand behind the injustices that were spreading heavily in his society as he discusses the life of ” poor” and “laborers” and how they suffer by the high class “bourgeois” in the society of Britain. While Mary Wollstonecraft in the work of ” A Vindication of the Rights of Woman” tries to concentrate on another side of unjust which is imposed ,in her eyes, upon the severe condition of woman in society and how miserable her life was, pointing to the big loss of womans rights.
In his book, Thomas Carlyle goes over the general situation in Britain by discussing politics and how the government changes and deals through time, till he arrives a very distinctive chapter which is titled by ” Democracy”. In this chapter NO 13, Thomas launches his hot criticism upon certain situations in his country; by wondering surprisingly and hatefully about the condition of poor in a society like Great Britain. He begins by mentioning the main problem that those poor were confronting in their life as Carlyle says ” this largest of questions, this question of Work and Wages”( chapter 13- book III), which shows two sides that putting pressure upon the shoulders of those unable, poor people; the side of work and the side of wages. The government did not offer them a good chance to work or to have job in order to enable them to have a comfortable ,a useful, and a satisfied life, ” Man has a need to an amount(salary) that should be paid by the men pf government who can allow or allow not for others”(chapter 13- book III) , in that he appears dissatisfied with the inadequate job of the Government or as he likes to call them Parliaments, he wants the government and officials to afford what people need, to cover the people requirements or rights like job, money, and to reduce those unsuitable, heavy wages upon those unemployed, poor men; it is harsh treatment by the government which misuse its policy against those poor who have the rights of human like anyone else and nevertheless to the differentiations in levels ” I am a poor, it is true; but my lord shall not rob me of my honor. It is my natural inheritance. I hold it from heaven, and mo one
