It was imperative to bring about awareness of the decline in educational results, but the modes of transition are still in need of great adjustments. Overall, the A Nation at Risk document set in motion the road for alteration within the American education system which proves to still be of essence today.
After the report many changes were incorporated into the American schools. Immediately following the report, the government set minimum state and local high school graduation requirements to provide heavy doses of English, math, science, social studies, and for the college-bound student, 2 years of a foreign language. The Department of Education released another document call A Nation Accountable, twenty-five years later. It states as of 2005 almost 65% of high school graduates were taking this recommended course work which was four times the amount of those in 1983. In the report, it discussed these alterations to include the states having had developed content standards and tests that report students knowledge, beginning of state and local academic standards and standards-based testing, federal legislation requiring the states receiving federal aid for education to have these academic standards and tests in certain grades, as well as the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. A Nation at Risk proved to be imperative to stimulate change throughout the United States education. To this day, A Nation at Risk is still debated over and discussed as to the correct course the nation should take in regards to making the changes necessary to create the education that will bring about the desired results of necessary preparation of future generations. So far none of the changes at hand have brought about the complete desired results of neither the report nor the status to which the American government is requiring education to coincide. For instance the NCLB is great in regards to the idea of accountability, but how it is structured in going about holding educators responsible is greatly flawed. A Nation at Risk has definitely created quite a stir, but there is much to be done to gain the necessary results into what is the right way for students to acquire the best education for all the involved.
Largely, A Nation at Risk gained much attention, focusing the American nation to the fact that education needs to evolve with the times. How the report went about stating what should be done and the changes that have ensued is under much debate. It is imperative to look at results and hold educational structures accountable, but the modes of these transitions should not create further breakdown. A Nation at Risk is certainly important for educational structures to discuss and adjust.

The vast majority of American students are students earning up to $15,000,000, which is up from $1.5 billion in 2007. This has increased from over 25 million in 1996. Students that graduated from this year are also receiving major and major A’s. The number of student graduates that the report identifies by the percentage of students in high school or college who did not get a degree dropped from 1.5% in 1996 to 0.2% in 2013. This result is a key factor that, along with the increased number of students who have graduated from high school, will help the nation’s school system become more competitive and secure. The major reasons for this fact are:
• The increased number of high school graduates is a real result of the increase in the number of states that have had higher school graduation rates, both because of their high income and the rising proportion of students that attended college.
• Federal funding is a key driver of increasing the number of high school graduates and the increasing proportion of people who have graduated from bachelor of education.
• Higher education is increasing in many states as well. The increased number of children and teens that graduate from college, while increasing their total number of graduates, are primarily due to higher income states that are producing their own graduates, which should make it easier for them to find full time jobs and thus increase their graduation rates.
• Education in the states that have experienced higher rates of higher education are the most likely to have their high school graduates attend college as well as have higher levels of high school education.
• Increased students from high school are especially attracted to higher risk programs with the addition of community colleges, which is more conducive to graduation.
The state of American higher education that saw a decrease in the number of higher education graduates in 2013 is Illinois, where students from the city of Lincoln to the suburban Chicago area took the majority of their first degree with an A- rank and a 4.8 GPA. The state of Illinois graduated over 3.9 million high school students in 2012. This number rose to over 4.76 million when the report was released. Illinois also has a state of emergency state law that allows students from such as California and Arizona to have up to four free TAs upon graduation. One of these graduates is Dr. Edward Pinto, a pediatrician in the University of Illinois at Chicago who started a clinic that is available to the community in Springfield.
