After thorough research through various sources, there seems to be commonalities among organizations in how to follow best selection practices. First, companies establish a set of criteria in what they would look for in a candidate This allows for the applicant to know before they apply for the job whether they are a good fit, and it also allows for the company to verbalize the job objectives so they understand what they are looking for in a possible candidate. Similarly a job description and job requirements must be given to the potential applicants so they are able to understand what the job entails.
Next, the screening process, it is where the organization has a pool of applicants and from which certain candidates are selected for an interview. This may be done over the phone interview before the applicant is invited to come in for an in-person interview. The interviewing company must never a directly or indirectly ask discriminating questions about an applicant. Examples of these may include questions about their ethnicity, political views, sex, sexual preference, material status, religion or disability. An applicants suitability for the position cannot be determined by any of those elements listed.
Once the date and location for an interview as been selected, a set of questions are then created to evaluate whether a candidate will be a good fit. These question should be standardized so all employees are evaluated fairly and also they need to be related to the job. The responses to the questions along with the resume and references will be used to determine the applicants suitability or their ability to perform the job requirements and fit into the organizations environment.
Lastly, after references have been checked, make sure the applicant fully understands the position that is being offered and their list of duties and its compensation. Once the employer has articulated to the applicant what they will be expected to do in their new offered position, the employer should ask if the applicant has any questions or concerns about the job. Once all questions have been answered, a job offer is put forward to the most suitable candidate.
