Lisa walked down to the Powderhorn Falls. She always went there to calm her mind, and escape the world for a few mere moments. When her father hit her mother – Lisa ran to the Falls. When her boyfriend got shot during a drive-by, she ran to the Falls. The Powderhorn Falls was Lisas place. She never told anyone about her secret hide-out. It was better that way. Then they wouldnt know how to find her when she needed to disappear.
Lisa walked over to her usual bench, and sat there silently, looking at the spout of the Falls. The current season was winter – the Falls were moving slower than usual, but the water still continued to fall of the edge in high speed. In fact, the Powderhorn Falls was the only thing Lisa knew that continued on, no matter what happened, or what season it was. Lisa leaned over the stone fence that was the barrier between her, and the Falls. She thought of the most current problem in her life – finding out she was pregnant, from her dead boyfriend.
I wonder what I will do? Lisa thought. I cant raise a kid on my own. And I cant tell my Dad. He would kill me, or make me have an abortion. I cant have an abortion. I wouldnt be able to live with myself. I wouldnt be able to live with myself if I gave the kid up, either.
Lisa sat down on the bench, and cried a bit. She brought her knees up to her face, and let all her tears come out. Then, she thought of the idea that would end her misery. She took out the permanent marker, and a piece of paper out of her pocket, and wrote a note to her parents. Then, she found a safety pin, and pinned to her jacket.
Lisa finally stood up on the stone gate, and jumped off the ledge, and down into the Falls to her death.
