Most of the households have an Internet connection, at least in the major cities of Nepal. Even the remote places of Nepal have access to Internet. Big thanks to all the Internet Service Providers. According to Internet Service Provider’s Association of Nepal (ISAN), there are 43 registered ISP in Nepal. Among them only a very few (not more than 10) ISPs have survived and are currently operating in Nepal. However, amongst the ones currently operating, there exists huge competition that has never been fiercer than any time in the past.Even with more than 30 ISPs currently operating, this sector has recently shown appreciable performance. Internet Service seems to be more satisfactory than other services as there are more choices for customers. Going with the number of operators, the numbers of subscribers seem to grow at an appreciable number with age of Information Technology..As per statistics suggest, the average rate of internet penetration in Nepal has increased from 13.1% in 2013 to 17.4% in 2015 and 19.9% of the total population in 2016. This suggests that with time, Nepalese people have a higher demand and usage of internet and online services.
In addition, the demand for internet service ‘quality’ has also been changing. People demand for high speed internet at low cost. According to the list provided by netindex.com, Nepal has an internet index value at 8.67 Mbps and is ahead of India in this list. This shows that Nepalese market has many ISP providers providing high speed internet facilities to Nepalese customers. Also, this information highlights the importance of internet speed to Nepalese internet users.Problem StatementFrom the past one decade the use of internet is increasing in Nepal. With almost 43 registered ISP, consumers time and again tend to get confused as to which internet service to subscribe to. This study will be undertaken to understand the weightage of factors which affect the preference of ISP among the students. The major factors that will be taken into consideration while conducting this study are Cost, Speed, Customer service, Reliability of the network and Connection.Research ObjectiveThe main objective of this research will be to know the factors that affect the student’s preference while subscribing to ISP. In order to achieve this major objective, the following are the objectives to be studied:To determine the most subscribed ISP by various levels of students and location.
