The book described the three personae of Marcos as: Marcos as soldier, statesman, and shaman. McDougald questions whether Marcos was an authentic hero, “the Philippines most decorated soldier, as the dictator contended, and finds little evidence of bravery and much of embezzlement. McDougald stated the grim events during the darkest days of the Marcos Regime highlighting the series of human rights abuse and the vehement corruption that lead to an international uproar.
