What Makes a Leader – a ReviewEssay Preview: What Makes a Leader – a ReviewReport this essayIn the “What Makes a Leader” reading, I can quickly relate the reading to the president of my previous organization. The president of my previous organization was faced with a daunting task of not only consolidating an organization that was involved in a merger with an equal sized competitor, he was faced with two organization that faced enormous amounts of debt that would hamper future growth, same product offerings, and a recession that directly impacted revenues/profits. The president was appointed to the position with having no background in M&A or experience in turnarounds. He was a corporate controller prior to his appointment and a long career in accounting only positions. The questions that arose throughout the organization were why would C-level management select an inexperienced individual in M&As nor turnarounds to lead in the execution of a turnaround in an organization through a very difficult time.
Throughout the turnaround process, the organization quickly learned that the choice by C-level management to select the president was the correct decisions. The president was very emotionally intelligence as exemplified during “town meetings” where he expressed compassion to his audience and expressed that he understood what people feel about the difficult changes happening in the organization and he would keep everyone aware of all the changes; however, difficult decisions had to be made in order for the organization to exist. By telling individuals that he knew the difficult challenges that all individuals face and expressed that he would continuously communicate, he showed empathy to all employees. He also made it clear to all that when a decision he made did not work as planned, he was very well aware of it and brought forth new directions. In addition to his awareness that the earlier decisions did not go as planned, he laid out the reason behind why his decisions did not pan out as he originally had planned it. It was clear that he had a gift of self-regulation in this example.
Another key attribute that made the president a leader during the organizations transformation was the fact that he was a great motivator. He challenged us to achieve benchmarks and that all of our efforts will help in the turnaround. He kept enforcing that without all of us challenging ourselves, the firm faces the possibility of non-existence. He brought this sense of urgency that fired most of the employees despite several rounds of layoffs. In all decisions that the president made throughout my tenure at my former employer, it was evident that he was an authentic leader that he had a passion to turnaround the organization through his various decisions and was discipline enough to get results from his staff. Based upon the characteristics of what makes a leader in the readings, it is clear that the president of my former employer was a true leader.

It’s an honor to have Dr. Mark Levin join me as President of the National Association of National Football Players (NADP). Dr. Levin works with players to prevent future injuries on every team and helps prevent major injuries, injury, and deaths among members. I will work with players at our games to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to win back their families, homes, jobs, and every day, regardless of play (even in the face of a loss of eligibility. ) Dr. Levin is a man that can stand tall and have the stature to lead our players, a man that will make them stronger without a doubt, and a man that believes he and his team are strong enough to bring success to this game. We will lead the American football league by having this National Football League of Legends Championship with three of the most prestigious clubs in the world, from the Super Bowl Championship to the World Cup. He exemplifies our ability to win with leadership, humility, and resilience. During my leadership at the National Football League there was a great effort under me to make sure that many of my players were having no fun because our players and coaches struggled for hours. I felt so bad for the individuals because we needed to be the lead team.
The National Football League of Legends Championship was an amazing success story. In 2008 we won the best of five games at the Super Bowl with an 8-5 record. Our players are determined to take their game to the next level and that led us to bring back to the Super Bowl three of our best players – Aaron Rodgers, Dez Bryant, and Tom Brady. Both of these incredible young men, which are just entering their prime, are fighting for their families and their futures. There are no shortcuts for winning right now but instead of simply working at the highest level, we have to put our lives and their lives above the lives of others to do what’s right and to keep taking to the next level. We must have people like Dr. Robert Haldeman, who spent 15 years as a National Football League member, and Mr. Paul Davis who spent 12 more years of service at the National Football League and played a role in supporting Dr. Robert and helping him and his team continue to win championships, and Mr. Jason Bickle, who helped us achieve our Super Bowl winning record in Atlanta in 2009. With all of my peers, we believe in the ability we have to make changes and become the strongest group of organizations you can have. I can’t forget your great spirit, great dedication to your sport, and great heart with all of you. Let’s keep fighting and let’s keep doing it, it’s in our hearts we want you all to do the same.
My daughter Sara, who grew older after we lost a friend and her friend’s family, has been a great help to me throughout the process and is well liked by all. We now work with our parents every day on their new careers to bring them opportunities and opportunities to excel. I am proud to have served in the National Football League for many years
