President Roosevelt
Theodore Roosevelt also known as “President Teddy Roosevelt” was born October 27,
1858 in New York City New York. He was the second child born to a socially and prominent
family of English and Dutch decent. Roosevelt mother Martha Bulloch of Georgia came from a
wealthy, slave owning plantation family. Roosevelt was born with very poor health and was
asthmatic. The majority of Roosevelt childhood was spent in a bed due to his poor health.
Despite of his health Roosevelt was a very hyperactive and trouble making child who did not let
sickness bring him down, he was a very determine child. At age seven he developed a
fascinating and life long interest in zoology. Despite Roosevelt poor health as a child with the
support of his father Roosevelt began to exercise and practicing boxing. And sure enough little
by little he began to improve his health. It is that type of determination that made Theodore
Roosevelt that made him the great president that he was during the time of his presidency and
even afterwards.
As a young child Theodore was nicknamed “Teedie”. Theodore was mainly home
schooled by his parents and tutor’s the majority of his life. As a young adult he attended Harvard
University in 1876. Theodore had a photographic memory, loved reading and was great at
multitasking. Theodore was member of the Alpha Delta Phi literary society, Delta Kappa
Epsilon fraternity and a member of the Porcelain club. In 1880 Roosevelt married Alice
Hathaway Lee who later died at a young age of kidney disease soon after the birth of the child on
February 14, 1884. Unfortunately Roosevelt mother also passed away from a Typhoid fever on
the same day as his first wife Alice. That same year Roosevelt joined the New York Assembly.
Roosevelt was considered a republican activist and wrote more bills than any other New York
state legislator did. He later moved to North Dakota where he build a ranched named Elk Horn.
