Words Will Break Cement
Russias degraded political environment contributed to the artistic aesthetic of the Pussy Riot that conveyed powerful messages to not just the Russians, but also to the rest of the world. Many events, due to said degraded and corrupt political environment of Russia, have started and contributed to the Pussy Riot movement against President Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Medvedev, and the Russian police force. Those events include F**k for the Heir Puppy Bear, The Humiliation a Cop in His Own Home, and Buss the Buzz. These three events played an important role due to their important messages shared with the world.
F**k for the Heir Puppy is one of the many events that were part of the Pussy Riot movement. On February 29, 2008, five couples had sex in the Biology Museum and videotaped it, which later went viral. The event portrayed and depicted politics as explicit adult entertainment because of how everyone involved in politics, such as Putin, befouls the citizens of Russia, or in other words, “f**ks” them. Putin personally elected Dmitry Medvedev to act as his presidential successor, or “puppet”, to keep his seat warm for when he returned to the presidency after four years. By having the same president continually sitting in Office for multiple terms, Russias political environment would not be able to experience the necessary change and improve the country as a whole.
In the event of The Humiliation of a Cop in His Own Home, Voina, a Russian protest group, staged a protest event in May 2008. They pretended to be students assigned by local high schools and entered police offices, replacing portraits of Putin with ones of Medvedev. The flabbergasted police officers were unable to take action against the event, due the activists technically doing the right thing because Medvedev was inaugurated that very same day. Voina was completely within their legal rights to replace the portraits of Putin. They implied that Putin should be finished with his presidential term indefinitely and welcome the new president, Medvedev. Voina also wanted to show how corrupted the Russian government and Putin were, and how they were degrading the countrys political environment because of Putins multiple terms and his elected “puppet”, Medvedev.
Buss the Buzz was also a contributing factor to the artistic aesthetic of Pussy Riot. The event was originally for both men and women to participate. The action was to ask police officers for directions, and afterwards, excessively kiss them with gratitude. However, both parties must be of the same gender. Because of the same-sex rule, it quickly turned the co-ed event into the first all-women protest event. The video of the event was released on March 7, 2011, one day before International Womens Day. However, a handful of people who watched the video viewed the womens actions as forcefully kissing the policewomen out
