Exercise for Prevention of ObesityâCheeseburger, diet coke, supersize that, and add a kidâs meal, with fries, and a Dr Pepper please.â Obesity is a nice way of saying the word âfat.â Is the epidemic of obesity happening to just our children or is it affecting our adults too? Is life playing a major role in the epidemic of obesity? Should we focus solely on our children or should the focus include everyone. Exercise can be the key to preventing obesity and unhealthy lifestyles. âExercise for prevention of obesityâ Is there a way to teach the world what exercise means to their health? Obesity in children has increased enough that a national interest has generated programs to motivate children to get moving. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention there are short and long term affects on the health of our children. The percentage of children aged 6-11 years in the United States who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 20% in 2008 and adolescents aged 12-19 years who were obese increased 5% to 18% over the same period (www.cdc.gov, 2012). The problem has become serious enough that people from the NFL to the First Lady have become involved in programs to help.
Adults also show staggering statistics in obesity. Do we understand now that we have a real problem with our obesity rate? How do we fix the problem? One idea would be to fall in line with New York City and the creation of adult playgrounds. Getting our kids involved with us at a park like the one at Macombâs Dam Park in the Bronx would benefit adults and children. Creating a way for our schools to allow participation in sports without the elevated cost would be a great help to many families that canât afford to allow their children to participate. Currently 20% of 6-11 year olds, 18% of 12-19, and % of Adults over the age of 19 that are obese. Many programs have been created to help obese people to fight this epidemic. We now need to What happened to physical education class in school today? I know from that this is no longer a physical education classes in high schoo.We now know that the world is growing not only in population but in size. With the many statistics the epidemic of obesity is not just affecting children, but adults as well. Many programs have now been created to help in the prevention of obesity. Programs created by the White House to the NFL encourage exercise and a healthy lifestyle. If we could get started with just five minutes a day, it would help. What we must now ask is âHow do we encourage adults and children alike to get on board?â Letâs all do our part in helping encourage someone we know.
