Kenna is a very active three years old girl who is in pre-school. I observed her at her home during the afternoon hours. Her primary language is English. She is able to do a lot of things for her age. I observed her in her home setting that she is most comfortable. She is on track for her age developmentally, I think because her siblings are much older.
Her physical development appears to be advance for her age because she is a very active child. When I visited her it was time for her and her mother to work on worksheets together. She traced a giraffe with a pen she was able to hold the pen in her hand and trace the dotted lines on the paper. I also observed her cutting and coloring, while pasting a clown holding balloons. She was able to cut out the circles and color then the colors asked. She also was able to match the shapes. She drew me a picture of herself and she wrote her name on the paper next to the drawing. I feel she is very advanced for her age. She then went outside to play and she showed her mother how she could skip and stand on one leg. She was also able to tie her own shoes when they came apart, by her.
Her language skills are also developing far more than the average three year old, due to the observation that her mother speaks to her as an older child. She is a very talkative three years old. During the time of my visit, she sat down to read one of her books. She read, “It looked like spilt milk”. She was able to tell me what the story was about since she had read the book before. She is able to speak clear long sentence, and appears to understand what she has read. When asking her mom a question about when they were going to eat she would use the future tense.
Her Cognitive skills are also very good. She is able to count objects to 12 it doesnt matter what the objects are or even if they are the same size. She can also name all the primary colors. She doesnt really understand the concept of time other than morning, noon, and night. She also knows a lot out how to use home appliances like the microwave and toaster.
Her Social and Emotional skills are very well developed. When I arrived to visit, she was outside playing with the neighbor girl and they were playing princess. When her friend wanted to be the princess Kenna had chosen to let her friend be the princess, only if she could change the rules of the game, and she also didnt want to make her friend mad. She does ask her mom after wards to buy her shoes like her friend Alice. As the day continued to progress, Kenna decide to watch a movie before nap time, called Princess and the Frog. She was sing and dancing along with the move. When the movie was over she would pretend that she was the princess in the movie and pretend that her dog was the frog and she would act out her favorite scenes. When she was thirsty she asked her mom if she could have something to drink, and her mom said yes, she then asked her mom to get her the water but her mother told her she was able to get the water on her own, she was she started to get upset and demanding towards her mother, and insisted her mother get it, this is a sign of having control of her mother due to the fact that she is the youngest of all the other siblings and have been given special
