What is primary memory? What are the characteristics of primary memory?
Short-term memory is a popular way to say primary memory. Primary memory can move to the secondary memory. The information that an individual receives may be used, temporarily prearranged, or just plain forgotten. The size of semantic-based memory can be more adaptable because of the breaking apart of information. Breaking down the information is known to increase the size of the primary memory. This takes place because the secondary memory translates through the study of meanings, symbols, and logic. Primary memory is known to be brief. This is because of the intrusion and deterioration to resolve what is in the short-term memory at any time. Interference needs the effect that past or future memories have. This current information is located in the primary memory. Deterioration is the method of the primary memory that limits the deterioration and the primary memories size. These steps are vital in order for the attention to be kept on relevant and time-based information (Willingham, D. T., 2007).
What is the process of memory from perception to retrieval? What happens when the process is compromised?
The working memory can be very complex. I believe that memory worked a lot better for the useful submission of the steps that the information takes throughout the cognitive path. The sensory memory deteriorates quickly, but has a large sized capacity to work with. Studies show that both echoic memories and iconic memories exist within the sensory memory. Semantics and attention work together to determine which sensory memories are brought on by the primary memory. This is where we develop awareness (Willingham, D. T., 2007). In an individuals primary memory the information can be deployed, forgotten, or encoded into the secondary memory. This is brought on by deterioration or decaying of the memory. What if the information in primary memory is shown to be truly relevant to information that exists in the secondary memory or if preparation happens? Then the information will be documented into the secondary memory. Also it is important to know that semantics and attention are located in the primary memory, secondary, and sensory memory. These are all refereed by earlier information that is already documented in the secondary memory (Naveh-Benjamin & Kilb, 2012).
