Technology, which is a major cause for change in many organizations today, also creates a need for organizational change. The use of the World Wide Web has changed the way we receive information, how products are sold, and how work gets done. Advancements in technology have created significant pathways of scale for many businesses. For example, many jobs functions that were once performed by a male or female, has now been replaced with some form of technology. Health organizations may turn to technology for the purpose of improving medical care, reducing error rates, and to change, management skills are a key part of the job for most Human Resources to help minimize patient stress, and to encourage healing. Such changes as the transition to electronic medical records are a prime example of employees being resistant to the change. With the transition, employees will have to learn total different method of performing their work task then what they are used to. These adjustments may cause the employees to go through some type of training program or such. Medical employees were used to just writing things on paper, and filing, but now they are going to have to get used to using a computer. Employees will want to reject the change, because they are used to doing things one way, and advancements in technology is trying to interfere.
Managers should be motivated to initiate change because they are concerned with improving the effectiveness of the organization. When manager initiate these changes employees may become resistant to the change. Employees may resist chances due to uncertainty, habit, concern over personal loss, or just simply believing that management is not making a good decision for the organization. Change within an organization may cause increase in the number of employees quitting, transfer requests, chronic quarrels, sullen, hostility, strikes, or reasons the change will not work (Lawrence, 2012).
