POW 9
Problem statement- the problem is to find how many boats you see on a 6 months journey from New York to San Francisco.
Solution-I came to the solution that a boat traveling from New York to San Francisco at a constant speed you would see 14 coats. 12 on the way a 1 at each port. This equals 14
Process- I have a diagram( pg,2) which helped me with figuring it out all I did was drew the Americas. Then I drew 6 equal spots between New York and San Francisco on the map. Then I counted the first boat which was the one on the dock. You only see one at the dock so that means there must be one coming so I guesses there would be one at the one month mark. We would meet at the half way mark (this is marked by the gold dot). You would then see another at the 1 month mark because it is moving because one leaves every month. I repeated this for every month and came up with 13 boats then added the one that is at the dock in San Francisco.
Evaluation- I used pencil paper and a map that I drew with the pencil. I gave this problem a 10 for how easy it was because you ecplained and gave the answers in class.
Extension- this problem would be harder if it was of it was around the world. But it wouldnt be that hard because is use the same method.
