Problematic Youth
PROBLEMATIC YOUTHAre children nowadays being educated in an appropriate way? Or are they pressed by adults that try to prepare them for a competitive society?Although childhood seems to be a perfect stage of life, this is far from the reality, surprisingly an important percentage of children are suffering from stress, anxiety, and other problems that are also considered psychiatric problems. But what are the main causes that are provoking this undesirable and sad situation?Firstly it is clear that due to economic situation, both parents need to work to sustain their familiar economy, as a result of that parents normally spend long periods out of home, and consequently children suffer the lack of their parents and develop fears, problems to interact with others peers and to socialize, problems to sleep, all of them caused by the absence of adults in their childhood.
Due to the excess of freedom and the lack of control that children may have, they spend a lot of time playing videogames or watching TV, which is not really recommendable, mainly because they can watch programs that are not suitable for them, introducing violence, sexism and the worst values that society can offer. A recent reliable research shows that watching TV can help children to develop more quickly than the ones that do not watch Tv, the key point is that they should watch programs aimed for their age group, if not the effects can be negative instead of productive, but what happen if parents are not at home to control what they watch?Another phenomenon that is really common and widespread is the Hyper- parenting, which means that parents start introducing educational materials in an extremely early stage, in order to improve their abilities, skills… and instead of being educative and positive for them, that is causing exactly the opposite effect, children become frustrated and don´t really appreciate this toys or material, as they don’t really value these resources, finally they leave them. It is said that “we all have a genius within us”, we should let children show their preferences and likes and maybe they can surprise us with their special skills.
