Steroids in Basketball Case
What I Already Knew/ What I wanted to Know
There was nothing more exciting as a young boy than grabbing my mini-blue baseball mitt and strapping on my size five cleats and walking down the street to my t-ball game with my older brother. Ever since those days my love for baseball only grew stronger, as Im sure that same love lives inside billions of others across the world. I remember watching baseball and having dreams of being a professional baseball player, and idolizing the athletes that already were. These players become your hero and theres nothing more difficult than seeing this players name flash on the bottom of the television screen stating he was caught using steroids.
I already know of more and more of these instances happening to anyone from high school athletes to the professionals. Although the abuse of steroids are found in many sports, it seems the use of steroids have been mainly centered in baseball. The use of steroids has become an ongoing issue in Major League Baseball since the 1990s. I believe this problem has singlehandedly changed the outlook on what was once known as “Americas Pastime.” Alex Rodriguez, Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds, Jose Canseco, and Mark McGwire are just a few examples of professional baseball players growing up in the spot light and eventually crumbling to the pressure of success and leading to the abuse of steroids.
With the popularity of this abuse continuing- media, fans, and the league itself have been taking more and more actions to prevent this issue from occurring. What I look to find out in my research is with athletes knowing the plenty health risks, the penalties of the league, and dignity of their reputation- Why is steroid abuse in baseball continually occurring, and what is being done and decrease the likelihood of this problem becoming worse? I feel the answer to this problem is long overdue. I am tired of seeing news and media continually beating these instances down and seeing another hero fall. It has come to the point that when a player goes for 50 homeruns and 100 RBIs in a season, it is no longer, “Whoa, this kid can play ball,” it has become, “How is he doing this?”
The Story of My Search
The researching for information was a majority of the work during this project. There were many answers I needed to find and just as many places I needed to go to find them. Steroids have been blown into such a huge issue so my research was generally pretty easy. I found it very easy to find the information I was looking for right away. The only real problem was deciding what it was I wanted to look for. I knew from the start that I wanted my topic about steroids, but I found it very difficult to narrow it down to just one angle. I gradually started my search and more and more I began narrowing it down. At first I was going simply find why steroids
