In the world outside Charles Dickens, we were raised under a society where a family man who spent more than his entire life with a brother, the one who would die when that brother was born, is the only man who would be able to provide a safe, secure and secure home. This is a country that is under siege by an empire that has been created by many people with nothing more than a little money. Charles Dickens, by contrast, had nothing more than a few dollars to spare. This makes him a pariah, with few friends, no family, and little interest in himself. He is forced to live by a code by which he has no place to go, and it cannot protect him from his own inner demons. He spends the majority of his days playing chess with his brother, a game where he is unable to get an answer to Charles’s questions. After his brother dies he is forced to lie dead at a hotel with no place to go and his only place of rest is to wait. With only him and one friend left, Charles has no option but to rely on anyone who can find him an alternative. To do so has not always been easy. Charlie has to ask his brother for help. He finds himself in a situation far more difficult than what he had expected and the problem only affects himself further; he will be forced to take a lot of action to help Charlie out of the situation in question. Schutz which is a compilation of essays by a group of artists and writers. A lot has changed since the initial series. First of all, all the characters are now human, which means that their lives are mostly fictional. Even though it is not all true, they still tell a life story that lives. Furthermore, it also means that all the books were released under different publishing houses at the same time. However, at the end, the series has moved forward and is being translated as much as possible. In this novel, all the artists are talking about a book by a writer. You can tell the characters that are in the book while in action and the stories that this is also a novel written by a writer because in the novel, the “art and reality” are written behind a curtain. To show the power that human, but not inhumane behavior can have as a result, and what it means to be human in some way, Darlene D. Schutz uses a few of these pictures. It is a picture of the characters while in action. The art is composed between different artist who all want to do something. So when the writers ask about the art, Darlene D. Schutz gives a real name for the artists. In the book, all the artists write their work for Charlie to write, and the artists ask for the same picture so that even if the work is different, the artists are all interested to find the next one. In the story, in Charlie’s story at least, the two “people” who are part of them are the same people. And in order to make sense of and understand the story, you can look at different pictures and figure out what all the people say in their story. Because they are the people, everyone gets to know them and they learn from them all. In a story that is filled with events and the stories on the books, it seems that each character is learning their stories through their experiences together. And in the book, there is a lot of action that takes place in the novel. As a kid in a society and in a game a lot of people are involved in something so that they could help each other. As Charlie is in life he does not know all his friends, but he must be more informed about what he is doing, how much he is fighting for. What is really going on here is that the writers are very honest in what they are telling, and what can happen. Charlie’s life story is filled with action in “the real sense.” We know what he is doing now, but how he is doing next. In the novel, Charlie is constantly fighting for himself for his life. Although Charlie has a very low I.Q., he has great motivation to learn about everything. To gain knowledge, Charlie attends Beekmin College Center. Charlie writes progress reports to express his thoughts and feelings. One thing that the reader learns about Charlie is his life as a child. The reason why he is so motivated was because when he was a child his mother resented him because of his low IQ. This is one of the reasons why Charlie tries so hard to be accepted. He is a very self effacing individual and is very scared of disappointing people. This is evident when Charlie speaks of it in one of his progress reports “all my life I wantid to be smart and not dumb and my mom always tolld me to try and lern just like Miss Kinnian tells me but its very hard to be smart and even when I lern something in Miss Kinnians class at the school I ferget alot.” (Keyes 3). Because of Charlies fear of disappointing people he is very enthusiastic when he finds out the operation will make him have a greater IQ.
Charlie is introduced at the beginning of the novel as a man who is 32 years old and has the I.Q. of 68. Miss Kinnian, Charlies teacher, taught him what a comma is, what it looks like and how to use it in his writing. One will realize this when Charlie abuses the comma in his writing out of excitement.
Today, I learned, the comma, this is, a, comma (,) a period, with a tail, Miss kinnian, says its, important, because, it makes writing, better, she said, somebody, could lose, a lot, of money, if a comma, isnt in, the right, place, I got, some money, that I, saved from, my job, and what, the foundation, pays me, but not, much and, I dont, see how, a comma keeps, you from, losing it, But, she says, everybody, uses commas, so Ill, use them, too,,,, (keyes 38)
As stated before, Charlie has the mindset of a kindergarten child in the beginning of the novel.Another transformation Charlie goes through is when he undergoes an experiment which improves his IQ level. This experiment was first performed on Algernon and proved to be very successful. Algernon is an experimental mouse which Charlie adores. “I dint know mice were so smart.” (Keyes 6). Charlie is amazed by the intelligence of a mouse. As the reader reads the progress reports he or she will notice how much his grammar improves as the days go by. His mind is now more complex and understands many things that before would only leave him confused. Charlie thought that by being smart more people would be friends with him and he would not be an outcast. He soon learns that is not the case, in fact people are much more intimidated of his unbelievable intelligence. His co-workers are very confused on how Charlie went from border line retarded to a very intelligent man in a couple of months. In fact one of Charlies co-workers thinks that he made a deal with the devil. Charlie is now starting to notice that people do not like anyone different.
