Project Postmortem
A project post-mortem is a process, typically done at the conclusion of a project, to define and analyze essentials of the project that were effective or ineffective. Project post-mortems are proposed to tell process developments which mitigate upcoming risks and to endorse iterative best practices. Post-mortems are often considered a key element of, and ongoing predecessor to, effective risk management. Post-mortems can contain both quantitative data and qualitative data. Quantitative data consist of the difference between the hours assessed for a project and the actual hours acquired. Qualitative data will regularly include stakeholder satisfaction, end-user satisfaction, team satisfaction, potential reusability and supposed quality of end-deliverables. Successful investigation of project assessment variance is reliant on precise time tracing. The more the granularity with which time is tracked, the greater detailed an analysis can be accomplished during the project post-mortem. Everyone from the Project managers, analysts, team members, stakeholders, and employees should attend the meeting. A list of questions should be sent to the manager and end-users before the meeting. From the answers derived from the list of questions, it can be determined what the successes and failures of the project are. The Project Managers and Analysts will have an idea of what to or not to do on proceeding. The meeting will also enlighten the stakeholders if the investment of the training was profitable or not. At the end of the conclusion, there should be a list of lessons learned so that the same mistakes made will not be repeated on the next project.
