Argentina, a huge country who gained there independence from Spain, and declared independence July 9th, 1816. The capital of Argentina is Buenos Aires. Ceibo is the country’s flower and the Hornero is the countries bird. There currency is Pesos. The main spoken language in Argentina is Spanish. As of 2005, the estimated population in Argentina was 38,747,000 people. Argentina takes up a continental surface area of 2,766,890 km2 which would be 1,068,302 square miles. The weather in Argentina is in a variety of differences. In the north they experience subtropical climates and the south can get subpolar climates. The north of the country is characterized by very hot, humid summers with mild drier winters and is subject to periodic droughts. The southern regions have warm summers and cold winters with heavy snowfall, especially in mountainous zones. Higher elevations at all latitudes experience cooler conditions. In sports, soccer is the most played sport in Argentina. Although there is a widespread of volleyball and basketball and also field hockey. Public holidays include most of the Catholic holidays, though holidays of other faiths are respected. Many of are holidays that we have here in the U.S. they follow. Some as follow, Easter, Independence Day, Labor Day, New Years, and even Christmas. On Christmas Eve, the extended family gathers at 9 p.m. for dinner, music, and often dancing. Candies are served just before midnight, when fireworks displays begin. The evening also includes opening gifts from Papġ Noel (Santa Claus). New Years Day is marked with fireworks as well. Some of there traditions are as followed, Tango music, rock nacional is popular among the youth, European classical music, and also Argentine folk music is uniquely vast.
