Golden Retriever Case
Belle is a 4-month old golden retriever. Her cage is so small she can barely turn around, and she lays in her own filth. She also suffers from malnutrition. Belle has never had any human hands pet or even love her. All she wants is to be free, healthy, and loved.
Millions of dogs are forced to live their entire lives suffering in a small wire cage in puppy mills. Puppy mills are cruel to dogs and I think they should be illegal and shut down.
A puppy mill is a breeding kennel that raises unhealthy overbred dogs in cramped, filthy conditions. The workers of puppy mills are simply raising the dogs for their own profit. They treat the animals like they are products, not living things. That means, the less money they spend to care for the dogs, the more money they will have. It can be really hard to resist those cute puppies for sale in the window of a pet store, but if we take a closer look to where they came from, it is more than likely from a puppy mill. If you buy from puppy mills or pet stores, you are just funding the neglected animals. According to puppymillrescue.com, Studies show that 98 percent of puppies sold in pet stores come from puppy mill facilities. Even if the puppies look cute, clean, and healthy, there is no guarantee that their mothers aren’t still suffering in puppy mills as breeding dogs for the rest of their life.
The majority of the puppies that are born in puppy mills are born with genetic defects and infectious diseases caused by overbreeding. In order for the breeders to save money, the animals get no veterinary care, even if they are sick. They also spend very little on food and shelter. The first reason I think puppy mills need to be banned is because all the major health conditions the animals have. First of all, mothers and their litters often suffer from malnutrition from poor quality food and not getting an adequate amount, often times the food and water is contaminated with bugs. A combination of poor food, poor conditions and no veterinary care causes their teeth to decay. The dogs are usually infested with parasites, and they also suffer from dehydration, matted filthy hair,
