Java Me Up
Java Me Up is a community café located in the heart of Valley Ranch, Texas. The quaint shop is situated inside the city of Irvings public library. It offers an array of coffees and lattes as well as a variety of homemade pastries, sandwiches. This paper provides details pertaining to the establishments supply chain. Included is a description and analysis of one of the processes the company performs as well as the approach used. Finally, a metric is identified to measure the defined process.
Supply Chain
A definition of supply chain states all the key personnel and products used to get the company’s product or service to the customer (Jacobs & Chase, 2011). Although Java Me Up is a small establishment, it has an extensive supply chain. The owner, Patricia Ward, does most of the baking at her personal home, which doubles as a bakery and storage site. The company purchases its drink raw food materials from local stores and food distributors. The specialty items are shipped from exclusive sources. The shop itself is equipped with necessary appliances needed to prepare, stock, serve the variety of items listed on its menu. Java Me Up has five employees including the owner. The store is open seven days a week. Ample seating is provided both in the shop and on the adjoining patio. Free Wi-Fi is offered to the customers as well.
Process Design Approach
Java Me Up offers both make-to-stock and make-to-order products. The make to stock items includes croissants, cold chicken wraps, and chicken salad sandwiches. These things are made based on historical sales information (P. Ward, personal communication, February 15, 2015). The make-to-order products are done with an approach similar to a production-line. A few examples of this approach are as follows:
Fluid dispensers are preset to cup sizes.
Storage is specially designed for predetermined quantities of finished goods needed for future use
Trash receptacles are plentiful both in and outside of the facility to promote a clean environment
