Ageism is currently being fought yet it seems to continue all over the world. One way that ageism is fought in the United States is when the Employment Equality Act Regulations 2006 was enacted. The Employment Equality Act Regulations referred to equity in the workplace in reference to hiring new employees and how they are treated. It also referred to equality in firing, promotions, and retirement. According to United States Department Of Labor (2012), “The Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) enforces and administers the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), which provides a number of rights and protections for private-sector retirement and health plan participants and their beneficiaries.” (Protecting Your Retirement And Health Benefits). This has also helped in the rise because we now have many more cures for diseases that were not around years ago. This trend will continue to happen because our general health has continued to improve and our life span has increased and is proposed to continue to increase. Health care is another large factor this equation because if people are able to get the medical care they need they will live longer and healthier lives.

Laws that have anything to do with Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid definitely effect the ageing population. Our countrys biggest issue with this is the thought of the Obamacare plan passing. According to “Wikipedia” (2012), “The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), commonly called Obamacare (or the federal health care law), is a States federal signed into law by President Barack Obama on March
