Racial Tension In America
Abe Lincoln once remarked “ A house divided against itself cannot stand ” so if the society actually considers what has been done in the terms of Racial Injustice in America, then there wouldn’t have been people in America going and protesting and starting different kinds of movements that have immensely caused a lot of crime and especially pain in the country. This is directly related to the quote, when two races are mixed together the outcome will never be the way society wants it. Due to research that I have done recently I have found certain evidence that proves how far back Racial Prejudice has started and just exactly how it was started. Racial tension has been a recurring issue that the country just can’t seem to avoid. I will tell about where it has put this country today. Racial Tension has not only caused riots in certain cities but it has also caused death in many people’s lives. Racial tension and/or Racial prejudice has caused an everlasting coalition between the many races.
Racial tension in America has not been an issue that the country has been dealing with for a short amount of time now, this has been a struggle that the country have dealt with for a long period of time. An example to explain just what I am speaking of as to just how long this has been going in the world. “ Racial prejudice has had experiments done to show that it dates deeply into evolutionary stems of the real roots of racism ” (Culotta). Elizabeth Culotta has done a lot of research on the idea of Racial Prejudice, and she really has buckled down to explain really the experiments that she has done to somewhat put a finger on how far back Racism dates. Culotta has concluded that Racism has been found to date back to when Coalitions were formed against one another.
Other than back in the day the country also had to consider the amount of Racial Prejudice that there is in today’s modern world. To ever even consider that somebody could be caught in between their career and their culture what kind of choice they will have to make. A paraphrased quote to show just exactly I mean by that. “ Being a cop and part of another race which is not white, be ready to see a clash between culture and justice, and some people have actually found it to be a struggle “ (Damron). So now the country starts to hear of and from people from different sides of the story and so basically Damron the writer of this article is explaining his research that he has done and that he has heard from eye-witness accounts about their own lives as being a black police officer. The people that appear in the interviews explain that by being a black cop means that they still protect their community, yet they still are ostracized by others in their own community.
After the giant uprise of the #Blacklivesmatter movement people really have started to take aggression into this matter, by means of rioting and by actually burning down buildings like pharmacies, grocery stores, etc.. An example of the media being researched due to the previous repercussions of the shooting and other acts of crime. “ Kevin Wozniak defines Ontological Security in people as people believe that the society that they are living in in the moment will be observed as going into a major decline in terms of politics, economics, etc” (Wozniak). So this term Ontological Insecurity is defined as people believing that the society they live in is going downhill. These studies were concluded following research after the events of the shooting in Ferguson, Missouri had transpired. This is the main shooting that had started all of this, the protests, the riots, and all of the other crime related activities. This man did research and all of the people that he had interviewed were all identified as having Ontological Insecurity so they believe that the society that they are living in is unsteady and needs change. Another example to explain many of the details that were behind the shooting of Michael Brown. “ The day of August 9th 2014, this was the day where Michael Brown an unarmed black male was fatally shot by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. There was an impromptu gathering soon after the shooting where people were demanding just exactly why this unarmed man was shot to death after clearly expressing the words “Don’t Shoot” ” (Bonilla). There are many stories behind why Officer Wilson would have done what he has done, many people have issued death threats to this non-indicted police officer, and a lot of people actually question whether the charges that Darren Wilson had been charged were justified or not. Today in America studies show that 80% of the stops that are made by police in New York City are due to the person being pulled over for being colored. Cops from today are using bias to dictate the choices they make, they bring their own racist feelings into the problems at hand. These are the real reasons as to why there are so many different shootings. Another study shows that 57% of people that are in federal prison are African American. I believe that these are directly related to each other.
Today in America there is a lot of hate crimes, and this is all due to history, if people were even slightly able to hide their patriotic views and are able to be more open to change, then the nation probably would not have more than 50% of people in the federal prisons being colored. There are people in the world that decide to become a member of the nation’s law enforcement just so they can look down on other races. There is somewhat of an idea to other people that the race they are is under supremacy. Minorities today can’t get as much accomplished in their lifetime because of these reasons and also because of history. Here is some evidence to show that racism is rooted
