Section I- The Closing of the Frontier
The Non-Indians that settled in the Great Plains rapidly was do to the search for silver and gold.
1.) The Continental Road, system was a major factor for such settlement it carried people to the west. Do to the enormous Buffalo and cattle ranching gave birth to the cowboys.
The architectural reform lied to people that were emigrating from Scandinavia and Russia these reforms were more as a bribery to come to those Great Plains and settle. It was than heart broken to realize that they were to these immigrants never thought that they were going to find lots of dry land and no near water women worked very hard to help the whole family.
The American Indian did not want to leave the land they were born in and had been living for a long time many times they would try to accommodate and come to an agreement with the U.S. soldiers but it was impossible the “Cheyenne soldiers” as the native Indians were called they refuse to give it up as a tribe they stuck together their chief by the name of Joseph. On June the 26th 1866 army suffered. The Indians believed in their on myths like for example they believed that “The Ghost spirit” which meant that all those people that died could come back and special dances where made for them.
The Dows act was meant to make Indians adopt the whites settlement. That was a complete failure.
Mark Twain “condemned the business class” most Americans believed in becoming very successful and advance economically but slowly.
Section II – The Rise of Big Business
This decade was definitely the rise of American corporations and industrial production. In 1876 the Steam engine was invented. In that same year Edison came up with a new telephone and he perfected the light bulbs. Morgan found the steel to build railroads.

The Government was facing the highest peek of production a lot of immigrants came for a new opportunity to grow and work. The reformers were a little bothered because it came to a point that these rich discoveries defiantly made the rich more wealthier but their was a lot of poverty and do to the point that taxes where not being taken out of these wealthy people. At this point employees that were poor had to work extra hard to earn money.
The business class was supported as follows if you were powerful than you have nothing to worry about. A lot of the owners of this company here in this trust profit which monopolies in this case meant trust.
Owners like Carnagie introduced steel mills he made 2 million dollars in 9 years in the 19th hundreds that was a lot of money. Most rich owners gave all their fortune to charity and to build librarys to help the young youth to grow obtain lots of knowledge. Others like Andrew Rockefeller who owned the oil company would do 40,000 a year. A normal growing middle class, who were doctors, lawyers, would get about $400 to $500 dollars a year. In the 1900s Ð industrial production formed holding company.
Section III- Labors Struggle
The make-up of the work force in the 19th century was very sad the industry abused these immigrants who in need of money and a better life worked 12 or more hours non stop the faster you worked the better chances you had t keep your job. In the work force you did not only see male and female immigrants but children that stopped going to school at the age of 11 and 12 years old was to help their parents to work these kids would also work many hours a day with no break. The middle class did exist but only for people that had graduated would fall in that category. The immigrants you can say that 89.9 percent were very poor hard workers.
The leadership of these companies were very wide and demanding. Employees would get tired of getting hurt at work no sense of protection no sense of justice so if you dared to say you had hurt yourself you would be kicked out with no mercy.
This was enough some immigrants were tired of the humiliation the bad treatment they received they enabled workers to participating with the Americans. Immigrants
Section IV- The Huddled Masses
Before in the 19th century they would face misery they would live in a street abandoned home they would
drink polluted tap water
Pay an officer $10 to arrest a robber
Working for .20c an hour.
The rapid growth was based on urbanization and the rapid movement of people specially those that would come from Europe. Almost “70% of Immigrants depending where do they come from go to where they find their same culture and community and that is where they decide to live. A lot of the immigrants that came to this country felt a bit omitted from the society do to special needs that they needed before entering and becoming part of this society some of their names were also changed so in a way they lost their identity.
They were obligated to deal with broken homes street living houses that are not hygienically clean but slowly they worked to move a step up and libve in better conditions and environment
Section V – The American Dream Deferred
African Americans Faced Many Discrimination “Segregation” was shown everyday and every second African Americans where treated like slaves, in every public area there was signs separating blacks and white Americans. Blacks were known to be dirty and poor and ignorant who can only serve as servants in the late 19th “The Dream for Equal Rights”, was diminished. Poverty grew more and more through time and murders was done every
