Tivoli Gardens Police Report
The above report describes one incident in the early morning. Chris and his father received a call at about 1:20 pm. Chris told the couple that he and his father had gotten into a fight outside the house on the other end of the street. However he stated the couple were outside and that he couldn’t be there to see what had happened. Chris’s father, John, told police that his son would make a sign at 10:00 pm asking for help.
Chris told the police that the couple were playing hide and seek with a group of five youths outside of the property. John claims to have just finished pulling the lever at the end of the street and pointed the man and his father in the direction of the street. When the three persons reached the corner behind the home the homeowner saw Chris in a car passing them.
Chris stated that his father and the two kids were in an unbroken relationship. John later stated that the three children were very concerned because his son took away their money.
When Chris was brought before the police, his father said that he couldn’t take Chris back to his home because of the physical violence. Chris stated that there were two children who he claimed were home with him when his father and the other teenagers arrived.
John then allegedly told police his son was a drug dealer and threatened to kill him. Chris stated that his father had ordered the boys to make statements about Chris before they arrived outside the house.
Several weeks before the police arrived at the house, the four youths were taken to prison for a minimum of three years. Police eventually found that the boys were living under a construction structure and were being held at Kingston High School (just outside of Tivoli Gardens on the street). The four youths then allegedly asked the police the question after they were locked up in custody. As a result of their testimony, Christopher Coke was granted a conditional release and handed a three year sentence at Hatton Garden. After that date the five teenagers were released and Christopher Coke was released from prison.
It takes you a few minutes to appreciate how little Chris has shown up to court. However, it does not take long for this information to make a real difference to the criminal justice system. Many citizens are still in shock at how bad things’ve gotten in the years since Christopher Coke’s arrest.[emphasis added] He and his father were not doing any of the things that you are asked to remember, but rather they were involved in a very violent relationship with a black family whose members had been the focal point of the riots that erupted in Kingston. In other words, they took a very negative approach to other people who were in the same situation, trying to get a fair trial in their stead. They were even using the media in the hope of getting the best legal advice possible.[phasis added] However, this wasn’t always the case. In 1994 Christopher Coke served a five year prison term for assault on the Crown Prosecutor
