Why do girls play with dolls and boys play with balls? In today’s society its often hard to distinguish between the two genders. Girls are allowed to wear boy clothes and braid their hair, while boys now don earrings and flaunt in the color pink. Years ago this reversal of roles seemed profane, but now has become acceptable with the evolution of our society. This process of deciding what gender wears what and how they wear it plays an important part in the development of a human being’s life. Psychologists call this systemize and accepted process, by which you learn how to walk, talk, act, and behave, socialization. While in recent years both genders have begun to distort their traditional roles there are still certain things that are only acceptable for females and males.
Several words come to mind when you think of a female: barrettes, the color pink, lip gloss, Barbie’s, and purses. The answer to this might be the simple fact that our society is simple minded. As much as we think females have been liberated from the constraints of “ it’s a man world” society, theyre still many roles that are labeled as taboo for females. These constraints formed thousands of years ago, when women were thought to be the weaker sex, and were only allowed to sit and look pretty. The perception of a good woman is attractive, and is not domestically challenged. In the story Boys and Girls the mother was stuck in her traditional roles, because she felt as though the daughter should be in the house. Experiencing life as a woman has changed drastically in the last century. Fifty years ago women weren’t providers. Our society mind set has not caught up to the year 2006 they’re still trapped in the year 1932 in regards to their views on traditional gender roles.
In the beginning God created Adam, and with this creation he gave out certain duties. In his long list of duties he did not state that basketball, football, and G.I. Joes were only for male species. Society painted this unrealistic picture that males are stronger and should be the providers. The sexist comments about women being inferior to males are just plain ignorant. Even
