The Recruitment Industry:What figure do you think the U.K recruitment industry was valued at in 2010/2011?According to The Recruitment and Employment Confederation annual trends survey released on 9/11/2011, the U.K recruitment industry was valued at £24.6 billion, over the period April 2010 – March 2011, which was an increase of 25.3 per cent, compared to the £19.7 billion turnover for the same period in the previous year, showing a rapid upsurge.
The key findings of the 2010 – 2011 survey:The turnover in temporary staffing returned to the 2006/2007 levels at £22 billion compared to its 2009/2010 low point of £17.8 billion, a rise of 24.1 per cent.
Permanent recruitment reached £2.5 billion, a 37 per cent increase compared to the £1.8 billion recorded in 2009/2010.Volumes of permanent placements rose by 38.3 per cent from 436,800 in 2009/2010 to 604,193 in 2010/2011, while temporary placements went up by 19.3 percent to 1,049,333 compared to 879,000 in 2009/2010.
The number of people working in recruitment also went up by 13.1 per cent from 80,528 in 2009/2010 to 91,114 in 2010/2011.How many recruitment agencies do you think are registered in the U.K?The number of recruitment agencies currently operations in the U.K is circa 10,000 according to the dePoel website. The industry turnover is approximately £27 billion which is an increase of 1.3 per cent on last year.
What do you think are the biggest challenges for a new recruitment consultant?The role of any Recruitment consultant is primarily a sales role, which requires one to show dedication, passion and professionalism as well as the hunger and drive to succeed and progress. However, with the ever changing economy, one may encounter challenges with business development as some clients may feel that they do not have the necessary means to take upon themselves, the product offered, or they fundamentally may have other reservations. In some cases continuous rejection can damage ones self esteem making them uninspired and lacking spirit, nevertheless, in such instances it is crucial to be resilient and keep motivated. The ability to thrive under pressure and be creative are also requisite factors for a new recruitment consultant.
